Teen Vogue laid of their last 2 Black women writers. There are no more Black women writers at Teen Vogue and they’ll be no political staffers. There was a time when Black women journalists were up and down these media spaces and it felt good to read and see them, now… what?
We now know that the Teen Vogue fold is more than an absorption & clearly a full shift from the pub’s DNA. Laying off the entire politics team a day before the NYC election is heinous + a knife in the back to a brand that has solidified its importance for youth. Devastating.
My feed rn is just testimonies from every young journalist who managed to flourish in this industry thanks to Teen Vogue giving them a chance. What a giant loss for the entire industry: especially for WOC and LGBTQ+ writers who had to work 10x as hard to get a foot in the door
Teen Vogue was brave and righteous when many publications refused to be. I’m going to miss it so much.
