Every time I turn on @RTERadio1, I hear ads encouraging farmers to plant more trees for cash, or Coillte telling us they're planting more sitka 'for nature, the climate, and people'. Meanwhile, our last REAL forest ecosystems are just allowed to die off as if they were nothing.
So sad and angry to see these last ancient oaks in parts of Killarney NP, unable to regenerate for at least the last half century due to invasive sika deer and goats. If it continues, when the trees die, the most important of Ireland's last rainforests will die with them.

Out of 240 nations on Earth, Ireland ranks a catastrophic 13th from the bottom in how nature is doing. My piece in today's @IrishTimes on why our need for the Nature Restoration Law could not be greater, and any MEPs who vote it down will be betraying us all, including farmers.
Contrast what most of Ireland was once like to how it is now. Out of 240 countries in the world, we're *13th from the bottom* in biodiversity intactness, and these two images go a long way to explaining why. Radical land use change could NOT be more badly + urgently needed.
