If there’s anything I wish people in the church would get about people who have been hurt from the church, it’s this: almost everyone I know who cannot bring themselves to return to church desperately wishes they could. It’s horrible to know you can’t handle being there.

The most encouraging story in the Bible is Jesus weeping at the loss of Lazarus, knowing that he’ll live again. My savior doesn’t leave me when everything looks dead & gone. He’s present in my lament. He knows the beginning from the end but chooses to be w/ us in our pain.

Tonight I had an engaging conversation with middle and high school students (on zoom!) about how to keep ourselves from the chains of legalism and find freedom for our spirit. Youth ministry is cool on nights like tonight.
