Whatever the rights and wrongs of today’s resignations, one thing is clear: Sir Robbie Gibb should never have been on the BBC Board. His old job as Director of Communications at Number 10 should have ruled him out, just as it would Alastair Campbell. He should resign too.
What has happened...what is happening at the BBC? In normal times you might be forgiven for dismissing that question as naval gazing by journalists who can't resist talking about themselves. In normal times I'd be inclined to agree with you. These, though, are not normal times.…
.@EdwardJDavey is absolutely right - this escalation in the assault on the BBC should be incredibly alarming to anyone who cares about truth, accountability and democracy. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
This is a brilliant piece of writing by Lewis Goodall on the BBC crisis. Well worth the read (several times). It puts recent events in full context. open.substack.com/pub/goodalland…

Robbie Gibb should never have been appointed in the first place and he should not stay a day longer
Siding with a foreign criminal over your own country's public service broadcaster. There's a word for that.
Whatever you think of the BBC you’ve got to agree it should be our decision what happens to it… in my experience they tie themselves in knots to try and get balance and integrity and mistakes ( and this is a big one) are going to happen across the hours of production they…
‘If Putin, Trump and Netanyahu are denouncing the BBC, it must be doing something right.’ Former BBC journalist Jonathan Dimbleby doesn’t hold back in defending the broadcaster.
Trump wants to destroy the BBC and take our money. And Nigel Farage is egging him on. All true patriots should tell them both: hands off our BBC.
I think the vast majority of us Brits want the BBC to thrive and be a beacon of balance and truth in reporting. It needs to be and do better, but these two tweets alone should be all the proof you need for why it must continue to exist.
Farage, Johnson, Badenoch et al congratulating themselves on humbling the BBC now have to decide whether to back Trump’s potential $1bn lawsuit. No more Traitors, Strictly, Match of the Day, Graham Norton , Jules Holland etc etc All to pave the way for 24/7 GB news?
Just a question…but if the right are accusing BBC of being bias, and the left accuse the BBC of bias, doesn’t that mean, like a referee that both sets of fans dislike, make them not bias?
The majority the British public trust the BBC. For all its failings it isn’t a ludicrous far Right propaganda channel that gives ReformUK politicians & hacks paid gigs.
Nigel Farage, a man who has appeared on @bbcquestiontime more than anyone in living memory, says the BBC has been institutionally biased for decades. They have been, but not in the way he’s trying to shape it.
One man is responsible for bringing the BBC so low – Boris Johnson | The Independent independent.co.uk/voices/bbc-pan…
The BBC do something special as a public broadcaster. Thats why it has a status and reach far beyond impact of any one presenter, director, actor or viewer. The Panorama about edits clearly shocking and needs addressing. But we dismantle it or disown it at our national peril.
Trump - the king of fake news and hypocrite extraordinaire - has the gall to welcome someone else’s resignation… we’re talking about a man convicted of rape and of tax fraud - who did not resign and never would. Incredible. And btw, I resent his interference in our media and our…
I spent 35 yrs covering media all over Europe The UK has the best and the worst (its gutter press) Even though it makes mistakes (like all broadcasters) the BBC is the best. It should fight, not cave in because if populists get their way, the UK will end up with only the worst
I've always felt that Johnson and Farage put self-interest over the national interest - hence their dallying with Putin and his oligarchs. But directly colluding with a foreign government to take down the BBC feels like an act of supreme treachery
The BBC gets things wrong, it often drives me crazy & I felt let down by some of its Gaza coverage AND it gets as close to balanced as any news organisation ever will, its staff are serious & dedicated and those who are bashing it are as far from truth seekers as you can get.
