I’ve been a true crime fan for a few years now, and being a fan of the genre has reinforced one really important detail: police lie. Police lie all the time. Remember that when you are listening to the police talk about Carlee Russel.
One of the skills they don’t stress enough in the legal field, and which the bar exam completely ignores, is bedside manner. Lawyers also need to practice empathy, patience, and understanding in order to be effective counsel.
Stop coddling law students. Being a lawyer is not about you. It is about your clients. Stop reinforcing this weird weakness and treating these would-be professionals like infants. One day soon they'll be responsible for people's freedom, parental rights, money. This is sad.
