Why doesn't Tesla advertise? Mainly because they get lots of "earned media" (i.e. hype) despite little presence in Americans' everyday lives. They're not an omnipresent company like Amazon or even Uber. I'd be surprised if more than 3-5% of Americans have ever riden in a Tesla.
To take one example, Toyota made about *20 times* more revenue than Tesla did in 2017. It makes as many cars in *3 days* as Tesla does in a *year*. How many glossy profiles have you read of Takeshi Uchiyamada or Akio Toyoda?
Elon Musk is a bad person, narcissist, and is doing all this for the money. Stop idolizing that overgrown manchild with too much money. He's not altruistic.
