Trying to help students learn to love learning. Oh, and to beat the SAT, PSAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE...
New blog post: Taking the PSAT as a Sophomore - http://www.abacuslearning.com/2010/08/28/taking-the-psat-as-a-sophomore/
@natalierox22 That *is* a really good percentile. What book were you using for the practice test? What grade?
@iLUVJBIEBER_13 In fairness to your Mom, staying out all night dancing isn't the best thing to do before the SSAT :) Maybe an hour's worth?
@NorissaAWhite ISEE spends a bit more time on math than SSAT, and they do SCs, not analogies, so if you don't like SCs or math... maybe not?
@TheDCFanProject The PR book has those practice with unknown analogies -- so useful. I guarantee you'll need those strategies on the test.
Doing a bit of work on the SSAT/ISEE podcast today. What are some topics you'd like to hear about?
@NorissaAWhite Kaplan is a great book, especially good with math prep. Do you prefer math to verbal? Analogies or sentence completions?
@dianedisco You're absolutely right, but I don't think it's specific to algebra 1 :) It's horrible no matter what the subject.
@TheDCFanProject Excellent -- that's one of the best books out there. Really great for vocab, though the word webs take time.
@keytocollege What a useful resource! It's best when students don't have to read an entirely new book to learn vocabulary.
@NorissaAWhite Good luck with the studying -- what resources are you using? (I'm a tutor & I can help.)
Decent article on saving money on tutoring: http://bit.ly/zkYAd - I'd add that kids need to prepare for each session by doing HW etc. too.
