This is my first stab at a digital story. Note that my style incorporates dry humor and sarcasm, which my students seem to appreciate. 😅 See my story: "Lab Safety" spark.adobe.com/video/b6wxFOoL… #adobespark via @AdobeSpark
With a little shove of encouragement, I've decided to share my "teaching" blog. If you're interested in following the journey of a first-year upended by COVID-19 that led to a fantastic leap into a master's program through CMU, check it out! 👇🏻 tarichardson.edublogs.org

While different, being able to show positive support online should not be an issue, nor should being able to express emotions. There’s many ways to do this: emojis, images, recorded feedback, and more. What ideas do you have? #643Su20wk3 #MS #Innovate
A video library of brief, concise lessons that are accessible 24/7 would be a fantastic resource for students. They could be supplementary, extensions, etc. to meet a variety of needs. We could call it a vidbrary? Open to suggestions! 🙃 #643Su20wk3 #MS #Innovate
Hybrid (blended) teaching is something I’m hearing more and more of that others have experience with. In what aspect? Is there any wonder that the future of teaching may convert to blended, even without a pandemic? #643Su20wk3 #MS #7BigIdeas
While we hope everyone outside of the teaching community will automatically be patient, it is important to ask for it since everyone is learning and converting. #643Su20wk3 #MS #7BigIdeas
Cyberbullying is not a new issue. How concerned are you that moving online will affect cyberbullying? How can you prepare for it? #643Su20wk3 #MS #7BigIdeas
How can I gather the resources I would like my students to have to safely conduct labs at home without burdening my district’s funds during state budget cuts? #643Su20wk3 #MS #TeachingMiddle
“I don’t just lecture.” Such a critical statement for a science teacher. I agree wholeheartedly, and the subject deserves to be taught hands-on! Come on, who doesn’t like tossing watermelons off the roof when exploring energy? #643Su20wk3 #MS #TeachingMiddle
I'm surprised modeling online safety and discretion is not a suggested practice for improving and protecting student privacy. #643Su20wk2 #MS #StudentPrivacy
Transparency combined with parental consent may be ideal when using online systems with access to student information. Sharing a list of sites for school use would allow caregivers to research them more on their own and make educated decisions. #643Su20wk2 #MS #StudentPrivacy
Do we (caregivers, educators, students) fully understand what information is collected via FERPA and who has access, directly or indirectly? #643Su20wk2 #MS #StudentPrivacy
"...proposed reallocating time from nonacademic duties...to provide teachers formal time to communicate with families during contracted hours." Another task for educators when families aren't upholding their ends of contact. #643Su20wk2 #MS #LMSschool2home
"Sheldon (2007) similarly found that schools that reached out and attempted to involve families more frequently were more likely to see increased student attendance." Considering the year data was collected, possible link to truancy legalities? #643Su20wk2 #MS #LMSschool2home
"School–home communication is necessary for establishing a strong school community..." Absolutely, but this is not a sole responsibility for educators. Homes need to take back responsibility for their students. #643Su20wk2 #MS #LMSschool2home
"...that these systems are valued most by faculty and students for the ways they improve instructors’ ability to push out information..." This seems to suggest disconnect b/w teacher-student-caregiver relationships, distancing rather than engaging. #643Su20wk2 #MS #LMSperceptions
45% of students and 26% of instructors selected efficiency (saving time) as a large benefit from using information technology. It would be beneficial to have a short response question that allows specification for how IT saves times. #643Su20wk2 #MS #LMSperceptions
How are collegiate study groups comparable to k-12 students? I can see a connection for high school, but for elem and ms the connection becomes strained. Of course those pursuing a tertiary education will utilize LMS differently and more in depth. #643Su20wk2 #MS #LMSperceptions
"...it is unlikely that a larger population will drastically change overall effect sizes of online systems on academic achievement..." Perhaps the focus should be on how LMS can better f-t-f instruction or support online learning. #643Su20wk2 #MS #LMSadoption
