The Helpful Content Update - Reflecting on What Happened
Hear me out on this one, The “magic of SEO” happens when you know what people are searching for and creating exactly what content. If you don’t know what people are searching for and you don’t create content around it.. It’s like throwing darts blindfolded. Easy to lose.
Blogging has never been more popular. You can be up and running for $50 or less in out-of-pocket costs. But if you want to make something of that expense, you'll need to invest hundreds of hours of your own time to grow the blog into something people will read.
I'm not a massive fan of social media, but I understand the need for a presence there. I'm curious about how you manage your accounts. Do you use a central tool that connects and publishes content on a schedule, or do you manually log in to each platform to post updates?
I'm big on the fact anybody can be a successful blogger if they learn enough and do enough work to get there. However, you won't reach that goal if you start competing with yourself or doubting your ability. When that happens, don't listen. You got this!!
If Google hasn't already created a GA4 analytics profile for your site, set one up today. From the 1st of July 2023, your only source of analytics data will be the new profile, so the sooner you swap, the better.
What's everyone's opinion on using stock photos vs your photos in blog posts? I've taken many pictures in my travels, but when I go back to write on a topic, I often find the image I need missing. Do you make do or pull in stock photos to complete your blog post?
You see a blogger gain some success, and often people will say, oh, it's just lucky they got a viral post. The funny thing about luck is the harder you work, the smarter you work, the more of it you have. It's almost as if with hard work, you get a reward for effort...
As a blog owner, you tend not to spend that much time on the reader-facing side of your blog. But here's the thing, if you aren't checking how the site loads for readers, you might be missing obvious problems that may be impacting your readership or your potential income.
A blog has become a business and sole income for many of us, but what happens if tragedy strikes and you can't work or someone goes after you in court for copyright? Have you ever looked at business or blogger insurance to cover you in these circumstances?
With blogging, you can only control what you own, your blog. So don't fret about the Google updates or chatter from others about the right or wrong way to do things. Look after what you can do and do it to the best of your ability. The rest will work itself out.
What we're seeing so far from the Google March 2023 broad core update - seems like a quick and big start... seroundtable.com/google-march-2…
