Magnificent work by Molly Field (@SPQRMC) to put together last night's @urOneBook talk by Bryan Stevenson.
Powerful and inspirational lecture tonight by Bryan Stevenson. If you missed, look here for his Ted Talk tinyurl.com/ptbe85d
"I believe the opposite of poverty is justice." - Bryan Stevenson
Stevenson: to evaluate how we're doing on the rule of law we have to look at how we treat the poor and incarcerated.
"If you want to do justice, you've got to go to the parts of town where there's suffering & despair."
"We've allowed a narrative to emerge in this culture that says some of our children aren't children."
Stevenson: The greatest evil of slavery was the creation of an ideology and narratives of racial difference and white supremacy.
"Wealth, not culpability, shapes outcomes." - Bryan Stevenson
Stevenson: we have to be willing to embrace our own brokenness and know that we are not only the sum of the worst things we have done.
"We honor what it means to do justice when we get close to the places where injustice has been going on too long." - Bryan Stevenson
