After reading #Budget2025, it seems as though the Canadian Human Rights Commission will lose funding to monitor the CRPD (international disability rights law) after 2027. This is in direct opposition to the UN CRPD Committee calling on Canada to fully fund this monitoring.

The part in the statement specifically about the Canada Disability Benefit, they *changed* the goal of the CDB! "We want to see the combined amount of federal and provincial or territorial income supports for persons with disabilities grow to the level of (OAS) and the (GIS)."
Disabled people were promised their rights. Trudeau knowingly lied to us as he expanded MAID. Singh lied to us as he locked in an inadequate budget. Instead of rights, we got lies & a repeated slap in the face. If that so happens to increase suffering – MAID's available.

For those trying to absolve Federal NDP from this, they voted for Budget 2024 knowing the harms, and their Disability critic defended voting for it on a disabled podcast after. Grandstanding in the HoC afterward & forwarding an *empty* motion did absolutely nothing to help this.

There you have it. What was once a 2019 promise to finally get disabled people adequate supports before MAID T2, turned out to be a strung out bait and switch. Intentionally inadequate/exclusionary & going to as few as possible while MAID expands. But hey...CDB is historic! 👀
