Children do not learn to read "when they're ready." They learn to read when they're taught.
Or just don’t push them. They’ll learn to read when they’re ready. First kid read at 4, second at 7. Both always the best reader in class after I put them in public school (which I regret BTW). Today, they both have masters, one working on PhD.
