A merry group of men and women in an absolutely fantastic car at Mission San Jose in San Antonio circa 1915.
1/4: It's rare to find a complete item of china on the foreshore, even when buried deep in the mud, as this was. But this saucer was full of surprises, and led me from Burslem to Bombay...
A polite reminder: If you decide to download a copy of a postcard I've shared and use it elsewhere, please credit the source. I know I'm swimming against a strong tide here, but being respectful of the property of others is such an important thing that's so easy to achieve.
Good morning... Tuesday, I believe... Open 10-3.30 today and every day except Monday....But we are open Bank Holiday Mondays, and there would appear to be quite a few of those this month.
197 years ago, on February 14, 1826, Edgar Allan Poe entered the University of Virginia and went on to become its most distinguished dropout. I got to go inside his dorm room a couple years ago after speaking to the Jefferson Debating Society, of which Poe was a member. #UVA
A perfect stoneware pot - first spotted as a patch of ceramic in the mud, which to my pleasure, came out complete! Not sure what this size pot is for; it's like a double-height inkwell or a half-length bottle....
1/2: Here's my favourite recent delftware finds from the Thames foreshore. I especially like the first piece - with those colours and patterns, it could be a child's felt tip drawing, but it probably dates from the 1700s or earlier...
Women goofing around in El Paso in an undated photo. Because if you're in El Paso, might as well goof around.
El Paso, 1916. Check out the Packard, the hats, and the furs! Stylin'! This was taken in Sunset Heights. In the background is the Williams Residence, designed by Henry C. Trost in 1905. The home is located at 323 West Rio Grande Avenue. Courtesy The Portal To Texas History.
Happy Thanksgiving from Traces of Texas to all y'all beautiful, crazy Texans out there! Cowboys lining up to eat in Spur, Texas, 1939. Photo by Russell Lee.

As we mainly get posts of men on Remembrance Day, I thought I'd give a shout to my Mum when she was in the Women's Land Army in WW2. (For the avoidance of doubt, me Mum's the one on the right).
Like so many, my dad was plagued by PTSD and nightmares after the war. In college he switched his major to language and literature because, as he said, "I needed to get it out of my gut...write it down. This is the way it began for me." Image: Rod Serling 1943 & 1974
A beautiful little #Roman glass wine-jug, in clear glass with blue & white decorations. It was found buried in a Roman-period grave in Belgium, which explains the great condition it survives in #RomanArchaeology
How wonderful that there are those who think even a sidewalk to one's house should be a thing of beauty. I would love to have such a path in my garden.
This #ArmisticeDay I went to visit the grave of Fred Jury whose brass tag I found whilst #mudlarking on the Thames a few years ago. Fred fought in WW1 sustaining significant injuries. Unfortunately, his grave was completely obscured by brambles but.....👇

A Roman gladiator painted on a glass beaker, found in Begram, Afghanistan. It dates to the 1st century AD and is part of the Begram Treasure, a group of Greek and Roman artefacts and Han Chinese goods. On display in the Musée Guimet, Paris. #RomanGlass #Afghanistan
