A6: It’d be great if our SIG posts different articles that show how CFP happens in schools, K-16. Or maybe better, could we ask #literacies SIG members to share through a form what they’re doing in their research/teaching to embody CFP and then promote that through our socials?
A5. Even with teaching banned books, how might we engage in critical feminist readings and resistance against these bans? I have taught Morrison for years and find her Nobel Prize lecture from 1993 predicted where we are today #literacies nobelprize.org/prizes/literat…

The Nobel Prize in Literature 1993 was awarded to Toni Morrison "who in novels characterized by visionary force and poetic import, gives life to an essential aspect of American reality"
Q6 (1/2): “If you are willing to do the inner work and engage your students in the inner work it takes to read and write with feminist theories and pedagogies, then you are ready” (Jiménez, 2024, p. 47).
Q6 (2/2): What next steps can this SIG take to better support critical feminist pedagogies in schools and teacher education going forward? #literacies
A5. Knowing this feminist history is a form of critical feminist #literacies that can lead to activism at school and beyond.
A5. Students also watched the excellent Anita Hill documentary and listened to this great podcast about her talking about the Kavanaugh hearings. This is how you center Black feminism throughout an entire curriculum: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/bec… #literacies
A5: Considering the harmful ideologies laden in different policies, such as book bans, teachers can create groups where they share ideas, strategies, & events where they promote justice-oriented ideas and push against restrictive, “neutral” perspectives in #literacies education.
A5. To continue the #MeToo thread, my students were already reading Black feminist activists who address sexual violence such as Aishah Shahidah Simmons and her excellent documentary NO! The Rape Documentary. That led to further activism at school #literacies
Q5: What are some examples of activism that have come out of your feminist pedagogies in schools and in teacher education? #literacies
A4. Young people want to address the everyday issues that impact their lives at school, and teaching critical feminist theory allows them to do that work in solidarity with each other and with teacher-activists #literacies
A4. One of the greatest challenges and joys of engaging in feminist activism with my students came during the years that we engaged in #MeToo activism at school. It was powerful work to address sexual harassment at school. That's a feminist literacy too! #literacies
Correction, we created the podcast with @veronicaeye Podcast Link with Dr. Jiménez and HS Students: tiny.cc/HighSchoolFemi… #literacies
A2-3. I want to share here some additional resources for teachers and teacher educators who want examples of how young people move from feminist theory to praxis: Podcast Link with Dr. Jiménez and HS Students: tiny.cc/HighSchoolFemi… #literacies
A4: I aim to have diverse perspectives inform all choices in the #literacies classroom, make space for students to see themselves, & build solidarity together. I try to teach WoC feminisms through discussion, uplifting voices of color, & stretching their thinking through writing.
A2-4. My students created this feminist podcast with @feministagenda during the pandemic. We wanted to continue our public pedagogies beyond the zoom room and into feminist discourse: Podcast Link with Dr. Jiménez and HS Students: tiny.cc/HighSchoolFemi… #literacies
