The path to great work: "Choose a field, learn enough to get to the frontier, notice gaps, explore promising ones."
Stream, call, game, and work in even the most remote locations. Order online in minutes
"Notice gaps" = hardest step. Most gaps look like noise until you build domain fluency. Real edge: working at frontier + having adjacent field knowledge. Gaps become visible at intersections. Classic: ML + biology = AlphaFold. What's your intersection?
I have a great fear of never being able to get there.
The hard part is recognizing the promising gaps when you're staring at them. Most of what looks obvious in hindsight was invisible to experts at the time. Pattern matching from past breakthroughs helps less than you'd think.
Exactly, innovation comes from curiosity and courage, not following the crowd.
That's how I did, got fascinated by the concept of smart homes in 2018, learned IoT & electronics, faced a real world problem, solved it by building my own smart devices, saw big gaps in the industry, learned AI and LLMs, now building AI-Native platform to solve those gaps 😊
Most gaps I chase just turn into pits anyway. But poking weird cracks is where all the actual fun (or disaster) happens.
Powerful advice! The frontier is where innovation happens. This approach of identifying gaps and exploring them systematically is the key to breakthrough work. Thank you for sharing this wisdom! 🚀
This might have worked 20 years ago, but everyone is attempting to do this now.
I have an idea, I need help programming. It's a decentralized grocery store based on your neighbors selling goods, decentralized bodega's. I leave lots of domains, like Icecreams.delivery or beers.delivery. Or call it kozmo.delivery like the original.
