Wonderful surprise this week to see the return of Short Eared Owls, not yet being seen during the day yet, only as they come out of roost at dusk.

PLOP 🥚 1st Egg - 13:48 on 9th April This is bang-on average for these two and beats the previous earliest ever egg at this nest by three days. This is Telyn's 22nd egg at this nest and 23rd in all (she laid one in Rutland Water in 2016).

Both chicks have been ringed and weighed this evening. Chick 1: 1910g, Female, Blue 7B3 (the heaviest chick we've ever had at this nest, beating Paith (2022) at 1830g) Chick 2: 1515g, Male, Blue 7B4 A ringing video will be out by tomorrow evening, including their names.
