Excellence, health and well-being have been crucial themes during President Snowling's term, and especially during the pandemic. Every February we have a dinner with the scholars of the College to celebrate academic excellence #40YearsOfWomen

We're rounding off the day with a very special talk from our President since 2012, Professor Maggie Snowling, entitled 'Mission, Mentoring and Maggie' #40YearsOfWomen

@MishkaSinha points out that we only become aware of how we look in relation to how everyone around us looks and reacts to us, and this can be very different in different kinds of groups #40YearsOfWomen

We should be aware of neuroplasticity - our brain's ability to change - and therefore that we can overcome unconscious biases and stereotypes. Studies have also found that meditation can go a long way in overcoming biases and becoming kinder! #40YearsOfWomen

An issue with unconscious bias training can be that, although unconscious bias is explored and explained, attendees may not be given any agency or direction on how to change it #40YearsOfWomen

@rashabarrage starts by highlighting that sometimes people think the issue of racism isn't relevant to them because it doesn't directly affect them. In reality, it affects every part of how society is structured #40YearsOfWomen

We'll be discussing three big questions: ❓What does success look like? ❓How can we define it? ❓Who can help us create those definitions? #40YearsOfWomen

To what extent is modern femininity a rejection of previous generations ways of life? How much has that changed? One of the many questions we'll be discussing today! #40YearsOfWomen

All of this has greatly changed women's participation in the labour market and the transitions women face #40YearsOfWomen

Many of these jobs have also been low-skilled and low-paid jobs, which the pandemic has shown to be especially important to society #40YearsOfWomen

We're now kicking off the small group sessions, where attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the themes of today in more detail. The first is on Academic Transitions, facilitated by @zolszewska1 and featuring @lucycragg, @ricketts_lara and @CateWheatley #40YearsOfWomen

Last but by no means least, our fourth small group session is focusing on diverse notions of success, facilitated by @hannahj_gilbert with discussion from @drlouiseashley and @NCLW #40YearsOfWomen

The third group session will be discussing Leadership Transitions, facilitated by Kate Molesworth and featuring @GBaxendine, Lizzie Lockett and Dr Isobel Pinder #40YearsOfWomen
