#fieldworkfail in my first attempt to install a partial cage treatment. Not sure what I’m controlling for here... 🦈 @AMSAconf @unswcmsi @EERC_UNSW #AMSA21contest
.@AMSAconf, I can’t pick a single study species! I work on @LivingSeawalls, which support a variety of species. Perhaps one of the most exciting things is seeing species living on the panels that otherwise aren’t seen on unmodified seawalls, like the #kelp below. #AMSA21contest
We deployed a number of goatfish spycams in Jervis Bay. Finding these special visitors on our footage was a highlight and an awesome fieldwork moment #AMSA21contest #AMSA21 @AMSAconf #RUV
This highly engineered #tech is essential for @LivingSeawalls biodiversity surveys. Its flexible quality allows for precision delimitation of survey area, regardless of topology. DM if you would like this tech in your lab @AMSAconf #AMSA21contest
Here is a very small example of my PhD study creature, sea urchins! Couldn't miss them out of my grad pics #AMSA21contest @AMSAconf
A couple of years ago @MEG_MQ did a field trip south in the middle of winter. Crossing the VIC border early morning, not only did I make them turn the car around but made them all get out for a photo at the sign. Look how happy they are #AMSA21Contest @AMSAconf
I don’t always get to use such high-tech #research tech like this Diving PAM, but when I do, it’s called PAMmer time! Duuhh duh duh duh 🎶 @AMSAconf #AMSA21contest
I could share my techiest tech for @AMSAconf #AMSA21Contest, but instead I'll share my low-techiest (and favourite) tech - the humble toothbrush 🪥 I use them to collect #stingray mucus samples for diet analysis using #StableIsotopeAnalysis
Allow me to introduce one of my study species – the southern sawshark. Part saw, part shark and 100% awesome! @AMSAconf #AMSA21contest
Introducing my study species, the bluelined goatfish. Not just super cute but can change colour and pattern in seconds. Could they be using this to communicate with other fish? @AMSAconf #AMSA21Contest
If you ZOOM IN near the dorsal fin of a yellowfin, they have the most amazing detail! One of the species I'm lucky enough to study ☺️ @AMSAconf @NSWAMSA #AMSA21contest
Check out our excellent lab and even more excellent lab members. If you look closely, they're all have their study species (well kind of) @AMSAconf #AMSA21contest
My study species are flatworms of the Order Polycladida, they come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes aren't very flat! Here are individuals from the Genera Eurylepta, Pseudoceros, and Thysanozoon, all from NSW. #AMSA21contest @AMSAconf
My very simple tech. A red card attached to a glass pipe. Used in the early stages of teaching my goatfish to recognise a red card as a reward card. And yes, they absolutely learned :) #AMSA21contest @AMSAconf
Here's a throw back to one of @FishLab_MQ biggest field seasons for @AMSAconf #AMSA21Contest! Featuring @CulumBrown @SharkySherrie @Teganation @emma_petrolo @luongo_alyssa @joshreed_mq @SeaSteffers @catarina_vp @jpkadar @walking_sharks @Manta_Rob +co doing their best(?) sharkies
@AMSAconf This is the best week to share my @SydneySOLES and @unswcmsi #fieldworkmates and my "lab" i.e. the oyster reefs for #amsa21contest. Rain, shine, wind, sunrise, or combinations of it all, we all smile (even if we suffer through the elements!) Thank you my #researchfam🤗
Congratulations to our Instagram and Twitter winners for the first week #AMSA21contest @sci_kel @clairejmason. We absolutely loved your entries. Can't wait to see you at the conference #AMSA21. Stay tuned for week 2, will be announced Monday at 9am!
Sometimes we rubberband or cable tie them to the tagging pole for that extra reach. Also super high tech obviously. #MacGyverScience @AMSAconf #AMSA21Contest
My #FieldworkWin has to be making a new friend who lives at my fieldsite. Meet Alan! She loves playing with cameras! 🐙😅 @AMSAconf @unswbees #AMSA21contest
Looking for discounted registration and social media glory? Our social media contest via Twitter and Instagram begins today!! This week’s theme: ‘Show Us Your Fieldwork Moment’, whether it's a #FieldworkFail or a #FieldworkWin
@AMSAconf here's my study species #Sydneyrockoyster. Since are they faceless, it is only befitting that I should be THE FACE for them, literally!😂 They might be forgotten but you will now remember this #iconic species & face attached to it.😎#amsa21contest @NSWAMSA @unswcmsi
@AMSAconf #amsa21contest Pow!pow!🔫🔫 Here's my "cast photo" for my 'audition' for the role of 'Marindiana Jones' in Reefers of the Lost Rocks. Now where's Sallah?! 😜😅
Attending #AMSA21 this week? Like to win stuff? Then we have the competition for you! We challenge you to "tell us you're a marine scientist without telling us you're a marine scientist"!
Congratulations @MarineMcnab and @millennial_sci - you are the winners of week 4 of the #AMSA21Contest! Thanks for showing us your awesome labs. We look forward to seeing you at #AMSA21!

Now that's a working lab! The WHS team of @NSWAMSA approves 👍🦺🧑🔬👩🔬🧪 Well done @MarineMcnab for sharing your wonderful lab! #amsa21contest
I have two awesome labs that I work in, here's both the @MEG_MQ lab and the marine natural products lab. #AMSA21contest @AMSAconf

Look at this fieldwork team, everyone is uniform (pun intended) in blue! 👏👏 #fieldworkteam Follow @OysterReefs and his team in @MQBiology and @MQ_Marine for more oyster research updates!#amsa21contest
Hey @AMSAconf, for this week #amsa21contest I’m showing my lab team in the field, where most of my science happens! In the picture you’ll find our great lab head @MelanieJBishop, super ECR @DrBrendanLanham and @MQBiology marine fieldwork manager Nick Harris.🙌🏼

Congratulations to our winners for the 3rd week of #AMSA21contest! @RosieRiots showed us her immersion blender for whizzing up corals & @Melissa_Staines showed off the ARM system for biodiversity monitoring. Very cool tech indeed! Looking forward to seeing you both at #AMSA21!
Hey @AMSAconf here is my tech which involves underwater cameras with a very high-end camera stands made from Bunnings bits and pieces. Literally the vertical part is a chair leg!! 🤪 #amsa21contest
#amsa21contest entry for #researchtech 👩🔬 Here I am with members of the Marine Society UQ deploying #ARMS (Automated Research Monitoring Systems) used to monitor mostly invertebrate biodiversity in Quandamooka (Moreton Bay). SEQUEST is funded by the Goodman Foundation. @AMSAconf

Not the most exciting research tech, but this vacuum pump set up is essential to carefully filter broken down tissue samples, so that we can check out any #plastics they may have in them! 🐟🐠🔬 @AMSAconf #AMSA21contest

A mixture of high and low-tech for my crab-stalking system. Night-vision capable police bodycameras meet... elastic bands and cheap tripods 🦀 I did lose one to a rogue wave once, unless it was the crabs rising up against the Big Brother surveillance 😳 @AMSAconf #AMSA21contest

@AMSAconf, @drlauraparker #AMSA21contest Sometimes we lock oysters or other bivalves like this scallop Mimachlamys asperrima in small chambers to measure their metabolic rate. This lets us know if they're stressed by our climate change treatments. @uts_c3

Hey @AMSAconf, here's my #FieldworkWin for #AMSA21Contest! This is the face of someone who - after 4 years - finally managed to tag a juvenile smooth stingray back in 2019 🙌
