Hard agree there, I’ve seen some beautiful Victorian buildings in Brum and I will never understand why architects strayed from that style and ended up with the horrid glass buildings of today

Whoever ran Brum in the late 20th centiry and approved like 75 percent of building to be demolished to build brutalise stuff or those soulless squares should he brought back to life and jailed

Just one example of the beautiful streets that have been lost in Brum. Its time @BhamCityCouncil started encouraging developers to rebuild in the style amd grandeur of these type of originals and match up with what is left.

If you weren’t a brum fan you’d think it looked dog shit just like everyone else. Stop trying to justify it and accept it’s a dreadful looking building.

They'll struggle to get it to look right. I'm in construction, & whenever I go home to Brum, I can't help but get really pissed at the design of 90% on the newer buildings. They all revert to the cheapest crappiest bricks. If they want this to look right, they need reclaimed.

They need to go back to the drawing board with this design... this cant be Brum's flagship stadium 🤢

Like all Brums ‘big design buildings’ it’s a bit ridiculous. But fair enough. Let’s do it. But definitely can clearly see where since selfridges broke the mould, all Brum developers thought, let’s go gimmicky.

Loads to love about Birmingham, but no city in Britain was dealt a worse hand by ‘enlightened’ modernist planners and architects than Brum. It’s no understatement to say their experiment wrecked a lot of our second city, leading to lonely no-go areas and alienated residents.
