Reinforce computational thinking by sorting blocks together and challenging your child to build a house, bridge, mountain, or other structure! Adults can model skills by building their own and helping the child imitate. If it falls, sort and try again! #CSforInclusion #CSforPGH
Computational thinking empowers young children to take in information, process it, and make conclusions about the world around them. By reinforcing this thought process, we ensure children get a strong foundation for later knowledge building. #CSforInclusion #CSforPGH
Thanks to @trendabelle for starting the #CSforInclusion Summit. We need to move from opportunity to access to inclusion. @CSforALL @PADeptofEd @remakelearning @STEMecosystems
Full house for the #CsforPgh #CsforInclusion youth showcase @BootUpPGH this evening! #access #community
To practice computational thinking, kids and adults can walk around and pick up different types of leaves, sticks, rocks, or flowers, recognizing patterns in shape, color, or even texture. You can even use materials to build shapes or a little town. #CSforInclusion #CSforPGH
While computational thinking is often associated with technology, coding, science, and mathematics, key skills can be practiced in many ways, including through nature, music, language, art, and so much more! #CSforInclusion #CSforPGH
Movement and sound are great ways to develop computational thinking skills. Adults and children can work together to make a movement/sound pattern, such as: stomp, clap, stomp or clap, clap, stomp, stomp! You can even make a fun new dance routine! #CSforInclusion #CSforPGH
Adults can support children’s computational thinking by reading books with repetitive language, such as “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” After working to recognize language patterns, children can try continuing the story! #CSforInclusion #CSforPGH
This Wednesday! You don't want to miss the final webinar in the #CSforInclusion series this year. We are centering race and #computerScience. Join the conversation and register here--> remakelearning.org/opportunity/20…
Learning how to tie your shoes requires computational thinking! Adults can support this by helping children work through the steps by acting it out, describing the steps in a fun way, and letting the child try themselves! You can even try multiple ways! #CSforInclusion #CSforPGH

Hey Justin! The next CSforPgh meeting will likely be in March for #CSforInclusion week. Perhaps you would want to host an event?
Maybe 40 years from now, Google will show "Disgraced ACM Turing Award Winner" next to Jeff Ullman's name #CSForInclusion
1/3: Sigh. Talk about digging a deeper hole. Clearly even experts of logic are not immune to illogic and BS. 🤦♂️ 2 takeaways for me from this new media article that covers the #CSForInclusion petition and interview of Ullman:
If you had any doubts on whether Ullman's views have changed, according to his recent (post-award) interview Ullman stands by his opinion that the United States should sanction Iran from accepting its students until the government changes: sanjoseinside.com/news/stanford-…
@TheOfficialACM here is reviewer #2 after reading a well-written rebuttal pointing out an obvious mistake in the review. He then explains how he made the mistake in his review, but keeps the scores and the reject decision. #AcademicChatter #CSForInclusion
ACM has received and responded to an open letter regarding this year's Turing Award selection and our core values. Both may be found at acm.org/response-to-le…
5/6 : Nevertheless, the awareness raised by the #CSForInclusion petition is helpful. I hope ACM & all of CS realize that a failure to take inclusivity seriously will no longer fly without censure in this field, from its newest members to its senior most members to all in between.
Consider signing this letter csforinclusion.wordpress.com to ACM opposing their selection of Jeffrey Ullman for the 2020 Turing Award. Over 1k in academics who are concerned about his discriminatory and harmful behavior have signed it. #CSForInclusion #HoldACMAccountable
How it started: Anguish of marginalized voices in CS. How it's going: csforinclusion.wordpress.com w/ 1100+ diverse voices, incl. 1 Turing, 1 Abel, 4 Nevanlinna, 4 MacArthur, & 17 ACM Fellows! 💖 Thank you all for standing up for #CSForInclusion #HoldACMAccountable! @TheOfficialACM
Forceful, constructive, and forward-looking demands posed to @TheOfficialACM and the award committee. CS as a field needs to stand up for inclusion, not offer empty or duplicitous words. If you agree, consider adding your support too. #CSForInclusion #HoldACMAccountable
We've heard a lot about free speech, academia, #CSForInclusion, etc. recently. In this talk/monologue (~11min), I speak my mind on all that. Talk video: youtube.com/watch?v=qdK8qr… Slide deck: cseweb.ucsd.edu/~arunkk/downlo… Features cameos by a motley of colorful characters. Enjoy! 😊

A statement by 2018 Award recipient and one of the academics I admire the most in the ML/AI world, also via their public Facebook page. Thank you for your support, Yoshua. #CSForInclusion
A powerful statement by 2021 Award committee member and 2012 Award recipient. 👇 Thank you for your support, Shafi. All have the power to speak. Senior folks: only your words have the power to heal. The trickle may yet turn into a raging torrent after all. #CSForInclusion 🥲
No one is against science, and No one is against #CSForInclusion. The statement addressed the exact controversial point of whether D&I values are considered as a criteria for nominating the Turing award. Moreover, It asks ACM only for an explicit clarification of its stance.
With all my compassion to all talents who did not get their deserved chances. #CSForInclusion #Diversity #DiversityandInclusion #DiversityMatters #inclusion #equity csforinclusion.wordpress.com
