I would imagine the difficulty is having similar standards across the nation. We tried that and it did not turn out well. Common core was a complete mess for everyone.

Nearly every person I know who sees this and says "common core is a disaster," often with, "I learned math the old way just fine" can't actually remember how to do math on a level much higher than this (grade 3-4). They also don't understand what's going on in the left video.
