Our minds have all been expanded! Thanks Clara from @OxfordPhysics for sharing your excitement about physics with #DGSScienceClub and helping us to appreciate the many fundamental particles that make up our universe.
Today we finished our light-up games at #DGSScienceClub. Here are a couple of examples made by year 7. Great work everyone!
Today we started making light up quizzes with a Diwali theme at #DGSScienceClub. Next term we'll connect each question to its answer with a strip of foil, insulated from other strips by tape. Then we can make a lamp light up by touching leads to the correct spots.
We made the most of a fine afternoon at #DGSScienceClub with an autumn nature treasure hunt in the school grounds. Well done to everyone who got a complete line and special congratulations to the team who got a full house!!
It's Bonfire Night, so at #DGSScienceClub we made our own "Catherine wheels" powered by a rubber band. Here's just one of them.
Today we finished making our automata at #DGSScienceClub - Here's a snake eating a worm by Keira and Venmika. Enjoy the half-term break everyone!
Celebrating #WorldSpaceWeek at #DGSScienceClub by making model satellites. The "solar panels" are folded for launch & deploy as the satellite flies. Here is satellite Bob and a great model by Meshra and Aishani.
Here are just a few of last week's shrunken heads, made at #DGSScienceClub. Keep them in a dry place and they'll last for ages
So much focus and concentration in the room today as #DGSScienceClub converted cardboard boxes, tubes and skewers into the mechanism of automata toys. Next week we'll add the model and see it move as the axle turns!
Challenges at #DGSScienceClub often use strictly limited resources but today teams had a whole packet of marshmallows & lots of spaghetti to build the tallest and strongest tower. The winner held 600g! Well done y10!
Today at #DGSscienceclub we designed our own board game. Depending on your lab practices, you can either shoot up the rocket or slide down the DNA helter-skelter.
So many enthusiastic scientists at #DGSScienceClub today - we had to use two labs! Great work firewriting everyone. Here's a starburst design by y7.
Some great results of leaf pigment chromatography at #DGSScienceClub by y9-11 today, using propanone as solvent.
Teamwork makes the dream work! Everyone at #DGSScienceClub worked together to make a new, extra-long, colour-coordinated jelly baby wave model, which will be on display at Open Evening tomorrow. See it in action below.
#DGSScienceClub know a great way to use some of the apples from the trees in the school grounds - make shrunken heads! Just peel and brush with a mixture of salt and lemon juice, then leave in a warm place to dry. We can use them to keep evil spirits away at Halloween!
Did you know soil is (v slightly) magnetic? John & Cat from Museum of London Archaeology showed #DGSScienceClub how geophysicists find out what's under the soil using various detectors & how it reveals the past. Thanks @MOLArchaeology for an amazing insight into your work!
The first #DGSScienceClub of the school year went with a bang today - well, a loud pop! Great work popping hydrogen everyone. See you next time for more science fun!
#DGSScienceClub is over for another year. Have a great summer and see you in September for more science fun!
Some plants contain saponins, natural soap-like compounds, and you can extract these to make a natural soap. At #DGSScienceClub today each team planned their method and then produced some soap from conkers!

The sun shone this afternoon - perfect weather for making blueprints. We had some treated paper that had been kept for 3 years and it worked beautifully! So we made more today and will keep it in the dark ready for #DGSScienceClub in 2 or 3 years' time.
Today we surveyed the invertebrates in part of the school grounds. It was great to find so many different kinds in the soil, on hard surfaces and especially on plants. There's great biodiversity in our wildlife garden area. #DGSScienceClub

The #DGSScienceClub water engineering challenge! Make a long pipe to transfer 100ml water from one cup to another using only 10 straws, masking tape & blutac. Well done team Drama Queens (125cm pipe, 36 ml made it across) and runners-up Pumpkin Pie (88 cm, 49 ml)
