i was training three models each on multiple corpora--NO WAY i'm gonna want to do that by hand. time to automate! my goal was to be able to call & train all models for each corpus in 1 line of code. that was ambitious 😅 but i did get it down to 3! #CodeNewbie #DecolonizingAI

then i started assembling all these functions into larger pipelines. i seperated parts of the process where something might go wrong, for easy diagnostics later. so the text prep pipeline is a seperate function from the model training & results pipelines #OOP #DecolonizingAI

i kept going like this! basically, anything i'd need to use more than once i put into a function: training the models, vocab prep for each corpus, getting & comparing cosine similarities of word pairs, etc. each function is built up from just 2 or 3 lines of code #DecolonizingAI

Interesting to consider how the phrase "As an AI language model..." relates to the idea of positionality statements, which among other functions, serve as a epistemic warning to others about the author's bias. #decolonizingai

currently 1 line in the terminal to setup a tensorflow & keras enabled IDE (jupyter notebook) with processing distributed over multiple GPUs. it's a little heavy to carry lol but worth it if u like speed ^_^

we see a lot of cool projects on here, but we don't often see people talking about the process behind them. so today i'd like to talk about a project i'm proud of--how i came up with it, & how i used Object Oriented Programming #OOP to structure the code. ✨ #DecolonizingAI

i wondered how big was 'big enough', since word embeddings are typically trained on massive datasets (called corpora). so i decided to make my own corpus by scraping the web, & then train a shallow embedding model on that & see if any relationships emerged. #DecolonizingAI

this was published???? before i start making jokes i want to know what this "AI" was trained on, exactly. where were the "good" neighborhood pix sourced from, & who labeled the initial training set? in other words, how do you quantify neighborhood quality? #DecolonizingAI

what's that twitter? #DecolonizingAI isn't a hashtag? well, it is now. some of us have broken into full stack engineering. GOOD. now it's time to break down the gates keeping us out of AI research. how do we do that? we start by examining what those gates are made of.
