#ECCCSci Brewers at NOAA #MaunaLoa Observatory, Hawaii, are used to monitor ozone, but they can also measure volcanic SO2. The plot shows the most recent 2.5 years of SO2 data.
Back on the west coast! First ozonesonde launch yesterday from the Port Hardy station for the monitoring of stratospheric ozone and the delivery of the #UVindex forecasts (thanks to #ECCCSci Jonathan Davies for the relocation from Kelowa and photo Jim Beal ECCC-MSC).
Congrats to all the winners of the STB #ECCCSci Tech Awards! Celebrating #innovation, #inspiration, #scientificLeadership, #scientificCommunication and #WomaninScience!!
Last week was heckin’ cool. Had a blast on my first extended field trip with @HudsonBayWQMS. Lots of driving, beautiful nature, water (sampling), and of course, laughs. Conclusion: I have the coolest job and MB is highly underrated!! 🍂 #ECCCSci
For extra #ECCCsci nerd bonus points, we actually dressed up *as* the Hinterland Who’s Who short films. Moose — 1963 Red Fox — 1973 Polar Bear — 1973 Raccoon — 1978
Congratulations to @DJMcGold for surviving 15 years as a public servant!! #ECCC #ecccsci @WQMGreatLakes
Congratulations to our colleagues @JasonDuffe, @Jonpasher, @ValerieWynja, @TaylorHarmerEC, Andy, Bhavana, Huili, Lisa, and Matt receiving #ECCCSci tech awards. They have been working hard on Ocean Protection Plan project.

Our #ECCCsci research colleagues from Saskatoon and Victoria are studying #LakeWinnipeg too! Geoff Koehler presents his #stableisotope work to understand the #LakeWinnipeg #foodweb, while Ran Shrestha is studying how #climatechange will affect snow cover in the basin. #LWRC2019
Rising to the challenge, #ECCCSci lab personnel in #Montreal are donating their extra personal protective equipment (PPE) to local hospitals. Every little bit counts when fighting #COVID19! #FlattenTheCurve
Our #WHERD #ECCCsci colleagues gave some great talks to the #LWsymposium too! Patricia Chambers shared work on how retention structures on small streams sequester #snowmelt driven #nutrient export. And Jane Elliot spoke to edge of field nutrient loss and #BMP effectiveness.
Sometimes field work does not go as planned. During the storm last night, our bouys on our gill net sank. Since we had coordinates we were able to drag for the net. Success on the first try! #fieldworkfail #fieldworksuccess #ecccsci

These ladies know how to sample water, they're going to be missed in the new year!! #WQMS #ECCCSCI #RedRiver #frostysonde #WaterWednesday
We made a stop just east of Thunder Bay today to inspect some precipitation samplers. All looks good! #ecccsci @WQMGreatLakes

Highly nutritious slimy mudflat biofilms are a vital food-source for long-distance migratory birds—and are under threat. ow.ly/sZ5h50AabnW
#ECCCSci highlighted in the Report to Canadians: Protecting #OurCoasts including shoreline mapping and marine bird research in Northern BC #marinescience #oceans #pacific
Thanks to the #OceansProtectionPlan, Canada’s marine safety system is stronger, and our coasts better protected, than ever before. As we celebrate #WorldOceansDay check out the latest Report to Canadians: Protecting #OurCoasts: ow.ly/ezIV50A257U
#ECCCSci research on Glaucous-winged gulls featured in @SecheltBC’s @coast_reporter highlighted how this multi-year tracking study is collecting baseline information on habitat choice, diet and health in the #SalishSea #scicomm #marinescience bit.ly/2LZrfsO
#ECCCSci and research partners are tracking #shorebird migration and a Western Sandpiper is shown travelling a distance of over 300 km from Grays Harbor to the Tofino mudflats in only 6 hours! See track: bit.ly/2z1Q30r #coastalraptors #scicomm
#ECCCSci are studying the environmental factors that underlie choice of habitats for Glaucous-winged gulls in the #SalishSea and if variations in habitat use affect exposure to contaminants #conservation #seabirds #scicomm
#ECCCSci is researching seasonal changes in the distribution and abundance of marine #birds and their prey on southern Vancouver Island to evaluate effects of oiling from vessel traffic in the #SalishSea #SSEC2020 bit.ly/3bw9v3B
