Short bursts, timed, increase, sentence level then build on that, modelling to time, modelling starts & them continuing, planning and talking about ideas more before getting started, sentence starts, scaffolds, questioning to continue, offering support as writing #engchatuk
Just a few examples of the incredible descriptions from 11p1. 10 minutes silent writing blasts are so effective for exam practice. 🤩👏 #engchatuk #teamenglish #youngwriters #GenZ
Thanks everyone for the #engchatuk tonight. My brain is not functioning at 100% on the last week of term!
Challenges: Writing stamina, resilience, revision skills. Not always understanding the impact that pandemic had on their knowledge and understanding #engchatuk
Thanks so much for kicking off our #Engchatuk chats this year @sarahkateTX - lots to think on and your time and skill is much appreciated! 😘
That is officially time on tonight's questions, but please keep the chat rolling! And thanks for joining in. #engchatuk
Huge thanks to @SusanSEnglish for offering to host #Engchatuk tomorrow evening. We begin at 8pm on the hashtag- all are most welcome. See ⬇️
But do you think that there is such a thing as a ‘good’ piece of writing in an objective sense? If not, how can we examine our subject? #engchatuk
I think that it is subjective by nature. We see this in school curriculum plans, particularly at KS3. What one school values as core knowledge, another school may deem less important.
Do join us at 8! #engchatuk
#Engchatuk will be on at 8 this evening and we will be discussing the challenges, joys and best practice around helping students prepare for resits in English. Please RT to spread the word! One hour till we start!

There is no indicative subject content so what is defined as knowledge varies from setting to setting as @GauravDubay3 says. Also, you need all sorts of knowledge, that is really not subjective, but that’s pretty much hidden until it isn’t.…1/
It has to be some of the work where doing your job well makes the most difference? It depends on how much capacity for a challenge you have at that time. #engchatuk
Question 2 for #Engchatuk What are the joys of teaching resit students?
Last few mins of our chat this evening - last question. Does teaching resits make you teach year 11 better? If so, what would you say was your best ‘take away’ for year 11 from helping resit students? #engchatuk

Ah, I had a trick for this once... It began with "Interestingly..." or another such adverbial + "although... main argument + new idea". Then, "What is certain..." Example to follow. #engchatuk 1/

4: Sam slowed his Y7 narrative unit right down. Instead of rushing to the final ‘assessment’ piece, he added ‘formative moments’ for: ✨ Peer feedback ✨ Self-reflection sheets ✨ Class discussions on writing choices #EngChatUK
I used this to support KS5 students dealing with the unseen element of their final exams but these questions are probably useful all through secondary English. Interrogating power dynamics is a core concern of many genres. #engchat #teamenglish #engchatuk

Time for my favourite puzzle...working out what Rossetti poem the teacher before me annotating from just the notes they left on the board...#engchatuk #teacherlife
"Feedback is focused on the past and identifying what went wrong. Conversely, feedforward focuses on how you can do things differently in the future." 🧠 🔄 Feed forward with a sprinkle of metacognitive reflection. 💭🌱 #teamenglish #litdrive #engchatuk #ECTEnglish #researchED

Weekend reading & mid term refresh: I have a particular interest in routines & their impact. This is another great title from the Visible Learning series that is supported by QR codes which link to videos for relevant sections. #Engchatuk @NIEngTeachers @Team_English1 @QUBSSESW
#engchatuk Lots of modelling. I think fading support helps but we must be prepared that this takes months in reality. Our recent year 10 mid-unit assessment looked at improving students' conclusions. WCF helped students to make improvements and edits.

2/2 BUT for £275 it is not sold out on a ticket agent site? Availability every night. With this as our set play it would have been great to give year 10 and 11 a West End theatre experience. (I know other options are available!) #unfair #pricedout #engchatuk #bbconeshow
