When attacking an in between/short hop on a tag play, try and maintain quiet, subtle actions with the glove. Big swipes take the glove further from the tag and harden up the hands. #ExpandRoutine
Quick-Slow-Quick Attack-Present-Attack 1. Cut down distance between you and the ball. 2. Slow yourself to allow rhythm, timing and clean transfer. 3. Attack toward target. #ExpandRoutine
Potential #1 overall pick Marcelo Mayor. One thing that consistently stands out to me is the elimination of the “fake flash”. Elite infielders, like Marcelo, are efficient and move quietly. Sometimes we get caught up in the sizzle, all that matters is the steak. #ExpandRoutine
#Repost @expandroutine with @get_repost ・・・ Rounding 1st 101. Always be thinking 2 out of the box. Ball is the only thing that stops you. #expandroutine
Unique thing about cross training infielders is when the same movements show up from different positions on the same play. “Sit on it” double play from SS followed by “Sit on it” footwork from 2B on the turn. #ExpandRoutine
The many footwork and throwing patterns that are asked of shortstops. Train athletic. #ExpandRoutine
“Ball hits dirt” - Perry Hill. Ball hits dirt around plate, come get it! “Hits dirt, get to the grass.” #expandroutine
Quick-Slow-Quick. Ball never stops moving. First guys job is accuracy, 2nd guys job is speed. Get the flip right and the double play will come. #ExpandRoutine
Loose, rhythmic, quick but not in a hurry. “Get out of the box” = Cut down the distance between home plate and your prep step starting position. Allows for rhythm, timing, creation of good hops + adds ability to mishandle ground balls and still have a chance. #ExpandRoutine
Tatis Jr with a “Grass to Grass” relay throw. Although he has plenty of arm to throw this ball in the air to the plate, Tatis throws a quick, catchable long hop. Nothing is absolute in this game, but you’ll notice a lot of guys utilizing this. #ExpandRoutine
10 toes toward SS. ↗️ direction on the feed. Keep it above SS belt and to outside part of 2B. #ExpandRoutine
Left ear to the ball to build momentum behind the flip. Arrive on time, shin angle toward target. Heel/toe/field connection. Uphill feed. Show ball early. Flip with your legs. Shake 2B hand (Don’t do it until COVID is over. 😷). #ExpandRoutine
Clubs in the bag. Many different variations from athletic shortstop Roman Martin. Being flexible and able to quickly adjust to the ever changing environment is a huge + for high level infielders. Don’t be caught in the bunker with only a driver in your hand. #ExpandRoutine
Posture on backhand throw is taller than that of a forehand or one moving toward the RF foul line. When momentum is moving away from your throwing side, a tilted body position and low arm slot can offset the negative momentum. #ExpandRoutine @ben.badler

It is important for the 1B to establish a throwing lane on a double play ball. We use the terminology “Grass to Grass, Dirt to Dirt.” The SS should align himself on the side of the bag that matches the 1B position. @TheProsPipeline #ExpandRoutine

The location of the flip is vital. Every pivot guy has a location he prefers the flip to be. Communicate with him and try to “Aim small, miss small”. Flippers job is accuracy, pivot guys job is speed. #ExpandRoutine

Internal ⏰. Feet adjustability. Being able to process the angle and time to determine which foot should start on the bag. As a shortstop you need SS footwork, 2B footwork and 1B footwork. #ExpandRoutine

A younger player issue I’ve always noticed when taking ground balls with a line behind you is players falling off glove side to get back in line on the throw. Arm drags, ball runs, bad reps. Be sure you follow your throw 2 full steps before turning left #ExpandRoutine

“Ron Washington drills”, better known as “Towel drills” for people who have done them for 2 decades 😉, are pointless without posture. Knees apart, butt off feet, chest forward. #ExpandRoutine
@nander2ds infield throwing position. Cleared/low front side, tight throwing side. Hand/ball “inside 90”. #ExpandRoutine
