Adam Yeo: Has Script Encoding Initiative summer fellowship, trying out a Private Use Area font. Bété keyboard is now available on Google Play. Sends messages as images. Was able to share with the community earlier this month. #FaceInterface

Sarmad Hussain: Starting in 2009, expansion in 2012 - expansion in TLD space. More suffixes available. 151 internationalized domain name TLDs, covering 37 languages using 23 scripts. 91 gTLDs have been delegated, 60 ccTLDs have been delegated. #FaceInterface

Sarmad Hussain: Linguistically diverse internet contributes to a knowledge-based society by bridging digital divide. 2005: WSIS Tunis Agenda including advancing multilingualism in domain names and email. 67% of world is online, remaining mostly in Asia and Africa. #FaceInterface

Mark Davis: Full UI in OSes doesn't necessarily matter: people might be able to read and write fine in another language, but want to do text entry in their own language. Full UI is very hard to get support for, expensive ongoing effort. #FaceInterface

Mark Davis: Basic+ support in Unicode CLDR for 168 languages. Use in productivity applications: need Moderate to Modern support in CLDR. Ideally keyboard completion, spell check, grammar check, translation, voice. But have to do these things in order. #FaceInterface

Mark Davis: People need to be able to read and enter text. Characters --> fonts and keyboards. Broad fonts like Noto has been useful for access. Linebreak (base algorithm, lang. customization, dictionaries, hyphenation). #FaceInterface

Mark Davis: Options for picking different kinds of calendars on your phone, and all these things get translated. Adding characters every year, some new scripts (mostly historical/scholarly), new characters that people discover they need. #FaceInterface

Tawfik Jelassi: UNESCO in charge of implementing the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, 2022-2032. Action plans exist at national and continental level (e.g. for Africa). Was initially a year, but expanded to a decade. #FaceInterface

Tawfik Jelassi: 60 member companies are implementing the UNESCO ethics of AI guidelines. Looking towards "an AI driven future that empowers all communities that preserves linguistic heritage of humanity as a whole." #FaceInterface

Tawfik Jelassi: as of a year ago, more than half the internet uses English, but many people are shut out. It's about language, but also cultural identity and specifically *knowledge* exchange. 90% of online content exists in 12 languages. #FaceInterface
