This is a classic over engineered disaster. Taking something as simple as displaying folders and files and creating a complex monstrosity that doesn’t work.
no, they literally do not have the talent necessary to fix file manager I don’t think you realize the extent to which good traditional programmers have been replaced these companies fire people by the thousands and replace them with foreigners, mostly Indians
how do you even fuck up FILE EXPLORER????????????????????????
Microsoft admits File Explorer is slow in Windows 11, and it’s going to preload it in the background to help improve launch performance. “This shouldn’t be visible to you, outside of File Explorer hopefully launching faster when you need to use it,” Microsoft confirmed. If you…
Remember the push for making the users unaware of files? That messed everything up. The file system used to be a simple hierarchy for your files. And the file explorer was fast and simple. We need to go back to that.
Files app is the slowest and most unstable file manager I have ever used
Microsoft has decayed to the point where they can't even make a proper file manager.

GNOME file manager is super slow loading 70K files inside a directory. Literally There is no virtualization happening.
Your point about unwanted features and poor code integration rings true! This adds complexity that causes performance and RAM leaks. Do you think a full rewrite of the file management shell is the only real fix?
The worst file manager i've ever seen. Why the hell do you need to preload stuff?
Also, for the people preaching Linux Distros here. Seriously, just fuckoff. Every single file manager on Linux is absolute garbage.
Sadly File Explorer hasn't worked for years. Daily crashes and no matter how many times I change the ridiculous default sorting and thumbnail settings, they keep getting reverted somehow. How I pine for the Windows 3.1 days when Windows just did what you told it to do.
similar to how their file manager still isn't async after 40 years, and tied into the shell, so the entire taskbar blocks whenever a network share is going unavailable. pure skill issue combined with management incompetence
I am regularly amazed that we pretend folders are the right way to organize files. They’re entirely arbitrary. Every competent file system ignores them to its best ability. Why can’t I have a file in two folders? Why does one have to be a “reference”? Why can’t i filter for…
