It's wild garlic time again 😋 Let the foraging year begin! #wildgarlic #wildfood #foodforfree #healthy #wellbeing
Alkanet looking splendid on the roadside right now. You can use the flowers as a garnish for salads or drinks, just like it's better known cousin borage. Historically, the roots have been used to make red dye. #wildflowers #alkanet #foodforfree #livingwithnature

Yesterday I spotted a possible cherry plum tree on a road verge. This evening I visited it with a plastic bag & did some foraging. Ripe fruit fell as I picked & littered the floor. I have collected 6lbs & will get more tomorrow (it was getting too dark to see them). #FoodForFree

#wildplums these are just a handful of the windfalls from a prolific wild yellow plum tree at plot. Never known what type 🤷♀️ #delicious #foodforfree #annualtreat
There is one big advantage to all this rain: field mushrooms! The sheep pasture is full of them - too many for my hands to carry. I am just waiting for a break in the showers & will be foraging for a good crop with my harvest bag. There is nothing as nice & tasty as #FoodForFree
Common Hogweed greens. The tips of newly unfurling leaves of our native wildflower (not the Giant Hogweed introduced by the Victorians), boiled for 5 minutes then sautéed in herb butter. #FoodForFree I will be picking blackcurrant leaves today to dry for tea.
This foxy book has become more and more foxed over the decades it's lived with me, and smells as earthy as its contents. Wonderful! 🍄🌱🌼 #RichardMabey #FoodforFree

Fabulous hedgerow harvest garnered in on the afternoon dog walk. Will there be jam tomorrow? #foodforfree
First haul of damsons - the easy reachers. Bumper harvest this year so get into those hedgerows!! #YumYum #FoodForFree
Not a bad use of an hour. Foraging around the farm yielded approx 10kg of fallen apples, blackberries, bullace ( a type of wild plum) and Rowan berries. The blackberries and a few of the apples are now stewing happily to make a pudding go with our supper. #foodforfree
Say hello to BenchMark Beans; huge & delicious. If you don’t grow them then do try next year - pretty infallible! #YumYum #FoodForFree
Excess figs are delicious gently poached in weak’ish orange juice (or similar) and then they freeze brilliantly. #YumYum #FoodForFree
A few wild garlic (ramps, ramsons) flowers picked carefully from only a few plants along the hedge to ensure plenty for flowering & setting seed. The scent is incredible. They will be salted tonight before being pickled. #FoodForFree 🌱
They’re in @ChefMPennington and @MarkDiacono ! A little earlier than I expected after the recent cool and wet conditions but plenty of St George’s #mushrooms #foraging #foodforfree

It's time! You'll need a sunny day and approx 20 Elderflower heads. Remember to check and double check you have correctly identified the Elder tree! polarisbushcraft.co.uk/post/elderflow… #elderflower #elderflowerfizz #foodforfree #wildfood
Just #foraged a jar full of ground ivy leaves (& the occasional flower) from along the orchard hedges. I will sort through them later to check for critters then infuse in apple cider vinegar to make part of the pickle solution for wild garlic buds. #FoodForFree 🌱

So..I made my dandelion coffee. The kitchen smalls divine..like sweet chocolate..unfortunately one carrier bag of dandelion roots did not yield a great deal but its free so who's complaining???😉😉 #FoodforFree
A lovely sunny morning after the deluge. The houseplants I put outside have had a lovely long drink. A mistle thrush is singing its glorious off-key song from the top of a nearby tree as I plant out tasty broad-leaved sorrel & red orach amongst the roses & peonies. #FoodForFree
Glasswort, aka Marsh Samphire, in Dundrm Bay. Very tasty, but not if you don't like salt. The Bay is also a great spot for sea beet. #foraging #foodforfree
