I’ve been living off grid for 70% of the last two months. It has been nothing short of incredible. Incredible for all aspects of my life. Here is a tour of my setup which allows me to work off grid and still take in the benefits of living in nature:

Better on each individual home. A centralized grid is too susceptible to centralized control and all of the security issues that entails.

Massive data center growth brings equally massive infrastructure needs. How can utilities recover high fixed costs without creating inequities or cross-subsidies for existing customers? Learn how to design equitable, defensible rates for the AI era 👉 hubs.li/Q03RDVz00

As these posts illustrate, when a lot of variable power is added to the grid, either 1) a lot of storage needs to be added as well (expensive and materially intensive) or 2) a big chunk of power demand itself needs to be more flexible. Otherwise, it's both wasted & unstable.

We’ve got 32 miners running now in Malawi, a nice small site that has 3 powerhouses and provides electricity to 1890 households. We balance out the grid by using their stranded energy. Bitcoin mining isn’t sexy, but it sure makes a difference in everyone’s lives!

The other point is you add resilience from the grid, check out how long I spent not even connected to the grid due to increasingly severe weather

Nestled in the tea fields of the Kenyan highlands, our next run of river site is built. Testing begins next week on this 3 turbine, 150kW minigrid.

This is obviously a critical issue to address... the power grid is already strained. AI and data centers must bear the bulk of the cost to meet the increased demand. They must be making investments into the grid. Driving up residential is not ok. Similar issues with water use.

…You realize that depending on diesel for production is not helping your bottom line and is unsustainable. Despite high and unpredictable fuel costs, you’ve been paying a premium for electricity — often 3–4x more than utility tariffs — simply because the national grid can’t

Our grid capacity directly impacts our ability to build homes and vital infrastructure. We must ensure new investments and expansion to the grid are contributing positively and directly to homes and the infrastructure we desperately need. Data centres currently account for a…

Just had a 'lightbulb' moment 💡. Ever thought about how much we rely on the national grid? Powering our late-night Netflix binges to our morning toast. Crazy, right? What's one thing you couldn't live without if the grid went down? #PowerThoughts #GridDependency #EnergyAwarene
