And that's a wrap for the first edition of #ISCS23! The International Symposium on #ComputationalSensing would not have been the success that it was without the help from everyone who supported @TFeuillen and @amirafsharm, and we would like to thank them in this thread.

Trilled to be attending #ISCS23! Excited to be back in-person to share my experiences and network with the amazing @InclusiveSci community. Looking forward to sharing practical consideration & strategies to navigate multilingual #scicomm with my friend, @AnaMaPorras!
Always a pleasure to share our work & lessons learned in #InclusiveSciComm. Big thanks to my friend @AnaMaPorras for the opportunity to present alongside her at the #ISCS23! It was great to network w/ @Emily_Cribas & @SoleLeeCosas at @InclusiveSci. #ComunicaCiencia #SciComm 🌎
Before this week, I’d never heard of #inclusivescicomm, much less seen it implemented as a concrete, studied communication practice. Y’all, I am in awe of what I learned at #iscs23. Inclusive science communication isn’t just a practice, it’s a movement.
First talk of the session on Astronomical and Biomedical Imaging chaired by @myprojection given by Sandrine Juillard at #ISCS23
Registration for the 2023 Inclusive SciComm Symposium is NOW OPEN! We'll gather Oct. 19-21 (+ virtual dates) to center equity, inclusion, and intersectionality in science communication. Register now, and tell your friends! inclusivescicomm.org #ISCS23
The last keynote of #ISCS23 is by Prof. Fauzia Ahmad from @TempleUniv on #Radar phenomenology and algorithms for #imaging.
No longer able to make it to the Inclusive SciComm Symposium #ISCS23 😭but I'd like to highlight two sessions. Elizabeth Rasekoala's @GongAfrican keynote 'Transcending Boundaries: Lessons in Inclusive Science Communication from the Global South' @BrisUniPress 20th Oct 2pm (EDT)
#ISCS23 will be releasing openly the recording of the presentations on #youtube. We also recorded small capsules of each poster and show-and-tell demo!
Thanks to all who attended the in-person Inclusive SciComm Symposium - we had nearly 200 attendees and over two dozen interdisciplinary sessions. We've still got one more virtual day left! You can catch the keynotes at ow.ly/j4e550PZlIm. Let's do it again in 2025! #iscs23

Whew, that's a wrap! Thanks to all who attended the in-person Inclusive SciComm Symposium - with over two dozen sessions, it was a whirlwind weekend. We've still got one more virtual day to come! Catch the keynotes at ow.ly/j4e550PZlIm. Let's do it again in 2025! #iscs23

I’m sure it will take me days (if not weeks and maybe months) to fully digest what I absorbed, but I can’t wait to integrate these actionable commitments to equity and inclusion in my writing practices going forward. Thanks for hosting such a great #iscs23 @MetcalfURI!

Stories also can be used to build trust, Mitchell adds. Effective, consistent communication can bridge generations. Thank you, John Bear Mitchell, for sharing these valuable insights with us! #ISCS23
Why do stories matter? Mitchell reminds us that we risk losing histories, understanding, context, meaning if we allow our stories to dim or disappear, or if we only tell the same stories over and over. #ISCS23
Mitchell told us the story of Chaballock, the first storyteller. This story serves as a reminder, Mitchell says, of the importance of hearing your own story and hearing others' stories, especially elders. You must hear stories before you can tell them. #ISCS23
We were going to live tweet the 2nd #ISCS23 keynote by the incomparable John Bear Mitchell, but poor internet access said differently! Lucky us, since it meant we could be fully immersed in the story he told..
Today's #ISCS23 keynote, Rediscovering The Story in Ourselves, with John Bear Mitchell, is starting now! Register here to tune in for free: inclusivescicomm.org/2023-inclusive…
It's not too late to join the final #ISCS23 keynote, Rediscovering The Story in Ourselves, with John Bear Mitchell! The livestream begins at 2pm. Register now for free: ow.ly/KBJJ50PZlCE
Rasekoala concludes: "Inclusive science communication is the indisputable hallmark of excellence in our field." Thank you, Dr. Rasekoala, for these terrific insights! #ISCS23
Rasekoala: How can we solve a problem that we refuse to name? This is why we put the name on the cover of our book. #ISCS23 [Image of book cover and title: Race and Sociocultural Inclusion in Science Communication]
Rasekoala: How can we talk about social cohesion and global development without discussing how scicomm fits into sociocultural nexus of everyday life? How can we be a globally inclusive field when we focus on inclusive scicomm as a luxury? This is a moral imperative. #ISCS23
Reposting with proper hashtag! #ISCS23 @InclusiveSci
Super excited to be at the #InclusiveScicomm symposium at @MetcalfURI this week! Continuing a great morning with @vgwschutte’s talk on our WhatsApp project in Antarctica (written up by @NaturePortfolio: nature.com/articles/d4158… )
Rasekoala: scicomm trainings often entrench poor practices, further reinforce Eurocentric, hegemonic thinking in practices in students...who then become the next trainers. Their book highlights different approaches to training that challenge this approach. #ISCS23
Rasekoala: There are numerous training opps in science communication around the world, but very few of them are based in the principles of inclusive scicomm. Maybe need to go back to square one and train the trainers? They're not up to the job! #ISCS23
Rasekoala: we need capacity building to establish and sustain a critical mass of practitioners and researchers who are not only trained in paradigms of inclusive scicomm, but can independently operate as agents of change. "You can't give what you ain't got." #ISCS23
Rasekoala continues: We need critical reconciliation, mediation (coming together), and recalibration (to address pseudo-historical memory). #ISCS23
