Check out the hydrophobic leaves of the lotus plant! Water beads up and pours right off. This helps the leaf stay clean and free of pathogens, and has inspired engineers to create waterproof fabric and non-stick pans. @KenAqGardens #JuniorRangerAdventureSquad #CityAsAClassroom

Spa day! It's called exfoliating when a tree sheds bark. #SquadMembers IDed London plane trees & river birches at @KenAqGardens this week. Both species shed bark likely bc the inner bark is able to photosynthesize & help the tree grow even thru winter. #JuniorRangerAdventureSquad
