Sometimes #InTheLibrary for the #MarshallFoundationLibrary is elsewhere -- Last Friday @georgecmarshall gave the Goodpaster award to Gen. James McConville, who like Gen. George Marshall served as Army Chief of Staff. The celebration was lovely, held at the Army Navy Country Club.
#FromTheLibrary From Gen. George Marshall to his sister, Marie. That second paragraph! #MarshallFoundationLibrary
It's cold outside, but warm #InTheLibrary. An economics class is visiting later to learn about the Marshall Plan -- what better place than at the #MarshallFoundationLibrary?
It's beginning to taste a lot like Christmas #InTheLibrary! Love mulled cider. #MarshallFoundationLibrary
On our first cold morning at the #MarshallFoundationLibrary, my favorite #MarshallWisdom temper moment: "Get these blankets and stoves and every other damn thing that's needed out tonight, not tomorrow morning, and not two weeks from now ...
"When conditions are difficult, the command is depressed and everyone seems critical and pessimistic, you must be cheerful and optimistic." Maj. George C. Marshall to retired Brig. Gen. John Mallory, Nov. 1920. #MarshallWisdom from the #MarshallFoundationLibrary
It is COLD and snowy at the #MarshallFoundationLibrary, but #InTheLibrary we are warm and cozy and open for research. What would you like to learn about Gen. George Marshall?
It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas #AtTheLibrary ... until it's not! Poor Wilbear, he's got his paws over his ears! (FTR it was a test.) #MarshallFoundationLibrary
Lead article in this quarter's Army History magazine is by Dr. M. Ashley Vance, whom I met as a researcher #InTheLibrary; who has spoken at the #MarshallFoundationLibrary; and who now is helping the effort to digitize the George C. Marshall Papers. So glad to call her a friend.
Busy week at the #MarshallFoundationLibrary. Researchers Helena, Elizabeth, and Malachi use archival records; and volunteers Eryn and Sue work on projects that make items easier to locate. Tanziha and I try to keep up #InTheLibrary!
A #CollectionsHighlight from the #MarshallFoundationLibrary -- a recently digitized photo of Gen. George and Mrs. Katherine Marshall in formal attire to attend a function in Pinehurst, N.C., in January 1950. Snazzy dressers, they are!
A rainy Friday that will finish off our almost month-old snow. A good day to be #InTheLibrary If you were at the #MarshallFoundationLibrary today, what would you be researching?
Yesterday 214 boxes of the George C. Marshall Papers left the #MarshallFoundationLibrary to be scanned by @BSLW, the beginning of a gigantic digitization project that will make the entire collection freely available. The individual-document metadata will take several years.
Another semester begins today @VMI1839, and I'm excited that beginning in February, the #MarshallFoundationLibrary will be open Tuesday evenings until 10 p.m. so that resources will be available #InTheLibrary for college students and faculty from the local campuses.
Two sections of the @VMI1839 U.S. Military History to 1919, taught by Dr. Joel Christenson, came to visit the library and learn about some of the #WWI collections #InTheLibrary. This is an album filled with original WWI Army Signal Corps photos. #MarshallFoundationLibrary

Elizebeth was a federal employee 20 years, but was always temporary. It is only in the last decade that Elizebeth is finally getting credit for her work. Her collection is at the #MarshallFoundationLibrary: library.marshallfoundation.org/Portal/Default…

It's #PublicDomainDay. U.S. Government photos, like Army Signal Corps, HAVE NO COPYRIGHT & are available from the Library of Congress, National Archives, & libraries (the #MarshallFoundationLibrary catalog: library.marshallfoundation.org/Portal/Default… ). DO NOT PAY BIG $. A friendly librarian PSA.

Hey, look! There's a beautiful yellow Lab #InTheLibrary! CAVU, such a good boy, is part of the Chaplain's office @VMI1839 and was visiting for a promotion ceremony held in the #MarshallFoundationLibrary. As far as I'm concerned, CAVU can be my aide-de-camp.
