We have over 100 stone tools @EtonMyersUoB - here are 3 hand axes ranging in size, all found at Thebes by the explorer H.W Seton-Karr, a contemporary of Myers #MusTools #etonmyers #stoneobjects
Hand axes are a type of multi-purpose tool used during the Old Stone Age. These tools were used by people in Ipswich. Evidence of human activity goes back thousands of years and large amounts of worked flints were found when IP1 was developed for housing. #MusTools
Around 300,000 years ago, Neanderthals and early Homo sapiens began to shape flint into portable stone cores, from which they could strike off flakes and skillfully shape them into tools for cutting, scraping, piercing and carving whenever they were needed. #MusTools
Ancient #MusTools aren't the only kind in our collection; these objects from the Chalmers-Hunt Collection (held by @NHM_Library) are a Victorian entomologist's tools of the trade. They would have been used to collect and study insects.
Friendly Reminder - #MusTools is tomorrow! Next @CultureThemes: July 25th is #MusTools culturethemes.blogspot.com/2018/07/next-c…

The next @CultureThemes day is #MusTools on July 25th! Museums, get your tools out! We're looking at what we have to get ready. The owner of these tools was an apprentice at Joseph Lucas (Industries) Ltd from 1952-57. He made his own tool box and tools. culturethemes.blogspot.com/2018/07/next-c…
This @CultureThemes day is all about #MusTools so here is a set of surgeon tools from around 1780. Surgeons carried their own personal tools which they used on operations and amputations... on wide awake patients, ouch! These belonged to William Aston.
We paper conservators tend to adopt specialist tools from a variety of trades in our day to day work. Here are two of my favourites. A stainless steel dental tool and a bone folder (originally used for folding paper in the printing trade). #MusTools
One of my favorite exhibits of tools in a museum context (#MusTools) is this auto mechanic shop @WichitaHistory. It manages to straddle that didactic space between display and disarray. #ITweetMuseums
