Old guy advice: if you take a break and you're serious about graduating, set a date right now for return. I took a break and set my graduation back 8 years. The break just kept getting longer.

That's a problem. It's a big problem. And it's an even bigger problem for alumni that weren't part of large organizations that still have ties to the University as a whole.

I have a sort of new age senioritis where I took too long to do my undergrad but now I dont wanna do anything and am also busy dealing with an identity crisis

I did this. Rushed through college (full time + off seasons), working full time to make it work bc I was embarrassed to be “that old” and still be in school. Now I’m 31 and sour that I didn’t get to savor the education I desperately wanted and am thinking of starting again lmao

When u are 23 like that person you feel missing out on something or out of place. Me for example i’ve been trying for a master’s degree since i graduated but there’s always been an issue and i couldn’t still start it, i might have to delay it even 1 more year and it gives me fomo

i think a lot of people I’ve talked to feel this way, myself included, and i wonder if it’s a good reason to advocate for gap years and taking time to work before going back for graduate school

The trouble with spending 10 years in university studying for a bachelors, honors, masters and PhD degree is that the strategy overlooks the reality that energy is finite. Adults lose steam and energy with age, and entering the workplace at 35 as a tired graduate may be unwise.

Every graduate year has been screwed by this pandemic. The 2015 graduate who just got their big break but it didn’t go ahead. The 2010 graduate who finally got seen by THAT CD. The 2016 graduate who booked a dream contract that got cancelled. Be kind. It’s a marathon not a race
