also, I appreciate & recommend this by @HowTheWestWS, "What is freedom to you?" htwws.org/what-is-freedo…; adding it to #OutsideAnalyst refs. Title & points remind me of #AmartyaSen's foundational 1979 essay "Equality of What?" proposing #capabilityapproach: drive.google.com/file/d/1vSA-S_…
another homeless services assessment role/project that we can predict will fall short of needs b/c of 2 fundamental issues: 1) studying what enacted, not what possible; 2) not co-developed w/intended beneficiaries. See #OutsideAnalyst project to track & redress. c/@ryanmfinnigan

contract with, or also with, an #OutsideAnalyst. Consider who & from what backgrounds/perspectives are you likely to draw, in conventional single-hire process, or include & uplift viewpoints, expertises of the people the programs aim to help? See project: outsideanalyst.tmccormick.org
Hi friends. BHHI is seeking a project manager for a one-year contract to help with a major research project looking at California's homeless services landscape. Please apply and spread the word: sjobs.brassring.com/TGnewUI/Search…
on whether CA #ProjectHomekey or OR #ProjectTurnkey are successful, we might ask, how can we know, unless they're carefully compared to alternative possibilities? which I haven't found them to be. As discussed in #OutsideAnalyst project, outsideanalyst.tmccormick.org. #3000Challenge
but probably, life is too short to do this for nothing. We should revisit idea of an #OutsideAnalyst consulting role, eg to workshop articles/ideas, and column/series; b/c as often, seems to me ideas here weren't sufficiently skeptically, equitably, or radically considered.
if only there were such funding or eligibility for experts & change-agents qualified by current, near, or recent lived experience, who are likely largely excluded in this. See also: #OutsideAnalyst role/program proposal. c/@jabarocas
person of long lived & research experience here. I can testify it's quite unlikely this research project will appropriately include, involve, support perspectives of unhoused, whom it purports to speak for & serve. Anyone who cares to help, fund #OutsideAnalyst study/role on it.

thanks for the call out, I heed it & share. I'd propose @IJHPEditors hire an accompanying #OutsideAnalyst bringing outside-academy & houseless viewpoints. See project & prior proposals at outsideanalyst.tmccormick.org. Come with us and we shall make you fishers of men. #Matthew4_19
#OutsideAnalyst, publicly proposed to @UCBerkeley @TernerHousing research center & other such programs. c/@ryanmfinnigan

seems like simple trailer-mounted/mountable/transportable homes have been excluded, and traditional manufactured housing kind of relegated. As US cities have generally been doing for 75+ years. I'd say they could use an #OutsideAnalyst, as usual. c/@tylerbpullen @TernerHousing
consider #bellhooks's great "Marginality as a Site of Resistance", and other essays from 1990 volume it appeared in, as resubmissions (unsubmissions?)? See also #OutsideAnalyst project of houseless housing research.

btw Ryan I'm working up an application / proposal / article for the @TernerHousing homelessness analysts posting. Sort of twitter/bat-signal honing in on it; and writing in public, "writing with strangers" approach (@WardCunningham's term): OutsideAnalyst.tmccormick.org #OutsideAnalyst
person of long, recent, and current near lived experience here, quite willing to share perspectives from 10 years of living, activism, research on exactly these issues. See #OutsideAnalyst project, outsideanalyst.tmccormick.org, exploring how to and why so hard to do.
mulling Oregon's housing plan from #BeginnersMind/#OutsideAnalyst standpts—long-steeped in OR planning & housing, since '70s in ways, now perhaps unusually disinterested/disaffiliated—led to developing model for radically public, parallel/prefigurative system—Open #OHNA, #OOHNA?

part of #OutsideAnalyst proposal is: build into the process, parties who don't have same incentives & peers. Building on eg #Kahneman's concept of #adversarialcollaboration. Also, with a twist, on #AudreLorde's idea, "the safe-house of difference". #safehouseofdifference
"Poetry is the way we help give name to the nameless so that it can be thought…sanctuaries and fortresses and spawning grounds…the safe-house of that difference so necessary to change.." -#AudreLorde, "Poetry Is Not a Luxury, 1985. sites.utexas.edu/lsjcs/files/20… #seealso
