We’re taking a wicked 🥶 winter weather break till next week. So we’ll finish out our #PaddlefishNetting for the year with two more days on Eufaula after the thaw. See you then.

The camera never captures how windy it is, but we were challenged by some waves today. No propped nets, but no refuge for the queasy. Biggest fish we saw was 28kg, which is pretty good for this population. #PaddlefishNetting

Another chilly morning on Eufaula for #PaddlefishNetting On our boat, we have the philosophy that if you’ve got time to lean, you’ve got time to clean. 😂 Having multiple scrub brushes on the boat helps keep a cleaner work environment.

#PaddlefishNetting has returned for one more Oklahoma reservoir. We’re on Eufaula Lake, the largest in our state, which is a restoration stock in collab with @USFWSFisheries

Last sunrise on Grand Lake for our final day of #PaddlefishNetting (we’ll resume after a holiday break). We’ve been fortunate with fair weather, which we appreciate. Only had to melt ice on the boat once. 👍

Week 3 of #PaddlefishNetting is on Grand Lake. Nets deployed on a calm and cool ❄️ morning. Forecast is for light breeze and fair skies. Just how we like it.

Not much else to share today, but that closes out week 2 of #PaddlefishNetting We hope you tune back in next Monday for Grand Lake when we will be joined by @KamaraShasta for some special #paddlefish research!

Due to wind and some other distractions, I’m late in posting some deets about #PaddlefishNetting today! We had 40mph gusts, so it was an adventure.

With two nets deployed “in the juice”… so far it was worth the squeeze. Good morning catch from #PaddlefishNetting

Pre-dawn net deployment on Kaw Lake for #PaddlefishNetting Expecting a decent SSW breeze today, but our nets are relatively protected on a south shore. 👍

We had really good catch today. Approx 270 #paddlefish captured, tagged, and safely released. That’s a lot of poundage and we’re kinda tired. Back for more tomorrow. #PaddlefishNetting

We had an old timer join us on the #PaddlefishNetting boat today, my previous supervisor Brent. Also, one of our new management biologists Grace wanted to lend a hand catching some chubby #paddlefish.

Erika, the regional management technician, holds a proper TOAD. I think 70lbs was top fish today. All are very healthy and free of scars. #PaddlefishNetting

Last winter our #paddlefish catch rates on Kaw were huge (10x greater than our last visit). So we’re looking forward to some good numbers this time too. #PaddlefishNetting

A catfish angler threw a cast net in winter 2017-2018 and discovered that we had a really nice spawn in 2017. Look at all these chubby #teaspoon #paddlefish. #PaddlefishNetting

Here’s a pose with Donnie the [fill in the blank] King. He’s the fisheries management technician who helps manage this reservoir and is assisting with #PaddlefishNetting on Kerr. We caught a bunch of big catfish for him this week.
