Well look at that... logged in on a PDP-11, running 2.11 BSD Unix, from a vt100. Well, actually a #pidp11, and #linux terminal configured with VT font emulation (looks like a crt) with #bsd running inside simh simulating a PDP-11/70. #history #vintagecomputing #retrocomputing
The hot glue finally congealed around the SD card extenstion so I buttoned up the back case for now. have a panel mount HDMI connector on the way and will add RS232 DB9 connectors later. #PiDP11 #pdp11 #RetroComputing
Haven't started soldering yet, but I have the Pi up and running. Looks neat. Might add another Pi or two as serial terminals to add to the authenticity. #pidp11
Followed by 12 resistors. Making sure the color bands are all oriented the same way only for aesthetics. #PiDP11 #RetroComputing
Next comes the IC socket for the UDN2981A chip that will drive all of the LEDs that will be hooked up to the diode matrix. #PiDP11 #RetroComputing
I love factory visits! This $250k CNC router cuts out 100 front panels for my PiDP-11 replica in one go. Every month, self-calibrating, never a mistake, 0.1mm precision. But takes a lot of experience to operate (i.e., not me). #PIDP11 #PDP11
The 21 switches now mounted correctly. 2 of them are still not perfect electrically in terms of off/on being 100% reliable though. Perhape it'll act more like a 50 year old machine? Lol #PiDP11 #pdp11 #RetroComputing
Just assembled this PiDP-11/70 kit. It runs a bunch of original OSs, displaying the real lights. BSD 2.11 is surprisingly complete! Took five hours to assemble. Definitely recommended! #pidp11
26 switches to install. Some off/on and others momentary on. Trying not to solder any upside down (I almost totally screwed up 21 of them!). Good news is Oscar provides handy spacing guides that also tells you the type, color, and direction. #PiDP11 #pdp11 #RetroComputing
