I am going to miss the morning atmophere of crossing the @NHM_London on my way to the office. I will of course also miss the #predictsproject and PlantsUnderPressure! I shall see you all very soon
The #PredictsProject database @NHM_Science is still growing - nearly 4.5 million records now, from 38,000 sites. Here's the breakdown of the ~54,000 species now in there
The #PredictsProject #biodiversity database @NHM_Science now includes data on how around 57000 animal, plant and fungal species respond to land use and related pressures - about 2.5% as many as have been formally described. Thanks to everyone who's contributed!
.@imperialcollege PhD Katia Sanchez-Ortiz is comparing compositional similarity on mainlands & islands using data from #PREDICTSproject Are islands more effected by land-use change? #NHMSC18
#PredictsProject newsletter is out today! @NHM_Science * New PREDICTS data now available on the NHM Data Portal bitly.ws/xjj7 * When Science and Art meet: Econario, by amazing @T_Biersteker thijsbiersteker.com/econarioRead You can read it all here: nhmlondon.org/PREDICTS-winte…
Here's the breakdown of the taxa in the #PredictsProject database @NHM_Science, as of this morning, helping us model how land use and related pressures affect local terrestrial biodiversity worldwide (and, yes, I *have* just learned how to do treemaps in R today...)
Thanks to researchers worldwide sharing their #biodiversity data with us, the #PredictsProject database @NHM_Science now has data from over 40,000 sites in 102 countries. Here's where they're from. How's everyone else's working-from-home been?
@jjwilliams924 talking about wether climatic and land-use interact in driving differences in local biodiversity #predictsproject #BESMacro2018
The #PredictsProject database now has 1.84 million records of arthropods facing #landuse. Here's counts of taxa & records in database vs global spp across beetle families. Solid lines: 1% as many spp as known (dashes 5% & 0.2%) & 1 record per described sp. (dashes 10 & 0.1)
To test this we analysed an amazing database of 6,801 sites worldwide (h/t #PREDICTSproject @AndyPurvisNHM), which we combined with data on host-pathogen interactions to identify zoonotic hosts 9/
A rare photo of @cmmckeon with her Masters cosupervisors in the same place at the same time!#PREDICTSPROJECT @compadreDB @lucaborger #BES2018
The #PredictsProject database @NHM_Science has gone past 30,000 arthropod species - a big THANK YOU to everyone who's shared their data with us!
Last treemap for a while, I promise - but here's the breakdown of the 39,000 sites in the #PredictsProject database among the 101 countries that are represented. Brazil has just overtaken the UK to top the list
#COP26 has been the first time since Feb 2000 that I’ve actually seen @adpalma, who I work with on #PredictsProject and the #BiodiverstyTrendsExplorer @NHM_London. This morning, we were interviewing each other @nytimes #ClimateHub
The #PredictsProject #biodiversity database @NHM_Science has data for 721 arthropod families. For 520 of these, we've at least 1% as many species as have been formally described (solid red line; dashes are at 5% and 0.2%; points in same colour are families in same Order).
I’m really enjoying #WBF2024 - great keynote, great plenaries and lots of great talks and posters. My talk called for a ‘satnav’ for nature. It wasn’t really about the #PredictsProject but I did quickly sneak in the latest map of #BII…
Yesterday I was presenting #PredictsProject & other @NHM_Science research to @NERCscience Council, and had to fight a strong sudden urge to instead talk about long-branch attraction in phylogeny estimation...
The first paper from my @NHM_Science PhD research is out in @BioMedCentral BMC Ecology and Evolution! We modelled data from the #PREDICTSproject to compare how abundances of soil & above-ground organisms respond to land use & soil properties bmcecolevol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

Great work by @gonalbala @adpalma @s_contu @EcoGareth comparing #BII trends in critical natural assets and elsewhere. Behind the scenes, @s_contu has led a new #PredictsProject data release data.nhm.ac.uk/dataset/releas… & an update to v1 data.nhm.ac.uk/dataset/the-20…
And so it begins... Check out the diverse range of activities @NHM_London will be involved in at #COP28: nhm.ac.uk/press-office/p… I'll mostly be working with colleagues at @kewgardens and @OfficialZSL to raise the profile of #nature as a climate solution 🌍
Extremely proud of the whole #PredictsProject team (past & present) and all the other brilliant teams at @NHM_London who've helped us get to this point
The Natural History Museum and Bloomberg have announced a collaboration to make the Museum’s Biodiversity Intactness Index (BII) data available to the investment community for the first time nhm.ac.uk/press-office/p…

More #PredictsProject data is now available on @NHM_data. Over 1m observations, from 9,610 locations and representing over 7 thousands species. The data was collated from over 100 articles that evaluate the responses of biodiversity to human pressures doi.org/10.5519/jg7i52…
In #BMCEcolEvol, researchers modelled data from the #PREDICTSproject to compare how abundances of soil and above-ground organisms respond to land use and soil properties. To learn more, visit bit.ly/3Vxumdm @SoilSchlearn #SDGs #LifeOnLand
New from @SoilScholar & #PredictsProject: Soil properties mediate the response of ecological assemblages to land use - in ways that differ between soil and above-ground assemblages bmcecolevol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
Land use affects overall abundance differently in soil and above-ground assemblages. More evidence that we should not assume that models or indicators derived from above-ground data can apply to soil assemblages!
This work would not have been possible without the many contributors who shared data with #PREDICTSproject & the support of my 29 co-authors including @s_contu @adpalma @inverted_soil @tnewbold31 @AndrewVSuarez @sashasuryo @red_termite @jpws2 @AndyPurvisNHM

Very proud that @NHM_Science's #PredictsProject contributed to #LPR2022. Nature is NOT a luxury - it's a crucial public good. Our economies are embedded in nature, so growth that comes from asset-stripping nature *is not sustainable*.
#BREAKING! Species population numbers have plummeted by 69% on average since 1970. 🚨 Nature is sending us an SOS: our life-line is in danger.💔 We need to turn things around – now. RT if you're with us #ForALivingPlanet! #LivingPlanet #LPR2022
The poll published today showed that over 80% of people in the UK recognise the threats facing #biodiversity. This great thread from @RSPBScience lays out the facts (including #BII from the #PredictsProject @NHM_Science). TL;DR - This is not a drill!
At a time when nature needs us most, this #AttackOnNature is unprecedented and threatens the very work that we, our partners and volunteers spend so much of our time dedicated to. Here are the facts 👇 1/16
So proud that #PredictsProject @NHM_Science has helped with this beautiful and (literally) moving installation, bringing #biodiversity #indicators to life

Thanks @bbcworldservice for the opportunity to discuss some implications of the latest #BiodiversityIntactnessIndex values from #PredictsProject (@helenherself, @adpalma, @ricardog00, @lucaborger and me) for #COP15 and for all of us
Scientists say that we need to keep our habitats as varied as possible - and that our targets around biodiversity should be as ambitious as those around emissions bbc.in/3BvsVCH
Despite the challenge and unsatisfactoriness of all working remotely, it was *great* working with @helenherself, @adpalma, @ricardog00 and others on this #PredictsProject analysis of #BII for @NHM_London's new #BiodiversityTrendsExplorer
“Britain has lost more of its natural biodiversity than almost anywhere else in western Europe, the most of all the G7 nations and more than many other nations such as China,” @AndyPurvisNHM “It is very striking – and worrying.” theguardian.com/environment/20… @ChrisGPackham @NHM_London
#PredictsProject getting a cheeky mention at #conservation2037. Future of technology in conservation @AndyPurvisNHM
