Hi @lisanandy @RhonddaBryant @DcmsLibraries remember when Library Workers were classed as ‘key/critical workers’ during the pandemic? Hasn’t protected them from cuts has it 😷 #protectlibraryworkers #savelibraries

Public Library Workers taking on the roles and responsibilities of other cut services isn’t something to be celebrated. It hides cuts and puts massive stress on the staff and service. #protectlibraryworkers

This! It's not something that's talked about, nor do many people make that correlation. #protectlibraryworkers

There are too many terrible ppl in this world w/ too much damn time on their hands to attack ppl w/ hearts bigger than most ppl. I'm glad that Mychal is prioritizing his mental health bc giving/spreading joy takes its toll, but we gotta do what we can to protect & support him.

When your employer takes away your security guard then offers you a ‘conflict management’ course even though you’ve had months of trouble from local youths and an assault in the library 🙄 #protectlibraryworkers @unisontheunion

Solidarity to @haringeylibrary staff, your fight is our fight ✊ #protectlibraryworkers #savelibraries

We also know that collocating libraries with other services increases these incidents. And we also know that poor management, procedures & policies add to the risks. 2/2 #protectlibraryworkers

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it a thousand times; “If you’re NOT fighting to save library worker jobs then you’re NOT fighting to save libraries” #savelibraries #protectlibraryworkers

More & more libraries having to close due to short-staffing, years ago when there was give in the system this would rarely if ever happen but most services are below minimum staffing levels + lots of staff off sick due to stress & the aftermath of covid. #protectlibraryworkers

Lone-working isn’t just a serious health&safety concern it’s also a sign of poor management. Library Workers even in smaller branches should never be forced to lone-work and if they are then their union reps should be all over management. #protectlibraryworkers

@Liverpoollib solidarity and full support to everyone at Spellow Library ✊️ #protectlibraryworkers

More stories about Library Workers being threatened, abused and assaulted, this isn’t a new thing but it’s definitely getting worse. Cuts, short-staffing, poor management, colocation and socio-economic pressures have put library staff at greater risk. #protectlibraryworkers

Library Workers continue to be treated with disdain as councils look to ‘restructure’ services, change roles and cut terms&conditions. All this with little or no proper consultation. No wonder so many experienced staff are leaving, it’s a disgrace 🤬 #protectlibraryworkers

Hi @lisanandy @RhonddaBryant Public Library Workers need your support. 12,000 have lost their jobs. Most are low paid & undervalued. Some are even on zero-hr contracts. We are even told that volunteers can do our jobs! #protectlibraryworkers #savelibraries

Abuse & assaults on Library Workers are increasing but aren’t reported enough by staff and aren’t taken seriously enough by management. Yes we need training and support but most of all we need more funding, resources, staffing and better library design. #protectlibraryworkers

The only reason @NYPL branches have AC is because the union got it in the contract that when the heat & humidity reaches a certain point we got the day off or another vacation day. Some collected months of leave sweating to keep branches open. #protectlibraryworkers

So pleased that my council have made the right call and closed libraries to protect the staff AND our lovely patrons. I feel absolutely awful for my colleagues across the sector having to continue to travel to work and staff buildings. PLEASE think and #ProtectLibraryWorkers

When you hear your service has finally made the right decision and will remain closed! I’m not ashamed to say, I cried tears of absolute relief. 😭 #closelibraries #ProtectLibraryWorkers
