Social events in doc programs = networking! @cmonique1023: “There is a lot of socializing that we do in academia that is off campus & has some type of cost attached to it. We need to think about what it costs for someone to be ‘social’ in a program” #PsychClassChat
@aecrossing: “Students with multiple minoritized identities can experience compounded stress, so we need to always keep in mind to support students from as many identities as possible” #PsychClassChat
@melmwilcox: “I got some of the best lessons of my life in classism and they were not in class and not from books. They were from first hand experience of classism. Those experiences were really demoralizing” #PsychClassChat

Higher ed is far from being a culturally neutral environment for low-SES students, notably because the system is built & organized according to taken-for-granted, middle- & upper-class cultural norms, unwritten codes, or ‘rules of the game’ (Stephens et. al, 2012) #PsychClassChat

The admissions process: Consider why we need standardized test scores. We know that systemic educational barriers in K-12 are a confound when it comes to interpreting SAT & GRE scores. Why maintain this barrier, enforced by systems of oppression, any longer? #PsychClassChat
- Budget of ALL costs associated w/ study - Record of all supports on campus 4 LIEM students (e.g., financial aid, food bank) - Estimate of debt accrued upon degree completion - AND, I know that app fees have a purpose, but they're SO cost prohibitive! #PsychClassChat
