How to boost EYFS? Teach teens about toddler brains
A new research project hopes to improve the potential of children in the first five years of life - by adding lessons to the key stage 3 science curriculum about how to talk to babies and toddlers....
#SEENProgramme teaches teenagers the importance of talking and interacting with young children to help their #braindevelopment. In our pilot 33% of pupils shared what they learnt with friends and family members, increasing public awareness around the importance of #earlyyears.
One participant from the West Midlands said, “in my school we have found our younger children are lacking in social skills in particular. Children are finding sharing, peer relationships and even interactions with adults extremely difficult”.
Teachers report on average ‘half of all children are not ready to start school’. Secondary schools can help play a role in addressing this by teaching pupils the importance of #earlybraindevelopment and the role of the #caregiver – core topics in the #SEENProgramme. @YouGov
We are focused on entry to Reception rather than Year 1 because we know many parents consider the start of ‘school’ to be the beginning of Reception. By ‘parents’, we refer throughout the survey to parents and carers.
