Which rock can withstand the most weathering? Today Class 6 put a selection of rocks to the test, investigating their durability and permeability. We found that granite is the most durable and weather proof, whereas chalk would quickly crumble in a storm! #sjsbscience
For @ScienceWeekUK #SJSBClass3 carried out an investigation based on the book ‘Izzy Jones’s Quantum World’. We wanted to help Izzy spin to the best of her ability so we tested whether socks, grippy socks or shoes would be the best 👍🏼#SJSBScience @StJosephStBede
This morning we ventured outside into our school’s ecosystem to see what different animals and plants we could spot. We used the data we collected to analyse all of the different types of organisms and the habitats they have. 🌿🐿🐞 #BritishScienceweek #sjsbscience
Class 6 have been very busy during #BritishScienceWeek investigating different materials and whether they are magnetic. They have also been testing magnets to see which poles attract and repel - we found that opposites attract and not all metals are magnetic! #sjsbscience
Today in Science we learned about the organs involved in the digestive process and how they function. Together we modelled each stage of digestion to help our understanding! #sjsbscience @DevelopExperts
Which magnet is the strongest? We also tested a variety of magnets to determine which had the strongest magnetic field that could attract a paper clip from the furthest distance. The red horseshoe magnet was our winner! #BritishScienceWeek #sjsbscience
We have had such an exciting day in EYFS today! We have had the opportunity to hold and touch different under the sea animals and plants. We really enjoyed holding starfish, crabs, seaweed, mussels, sea urchins and sea anemones. 🦀🐚🪸@StJosephStBede #sjsbScience #sjsbUTW
In our rock topic, we have been learning about the process of fossilisation. In class we fossilised our own ‘bones’ using sponges, salt water and sand. We can’t wait to check back in a week to see how fossilised our sponges are! #sjsbscience @StJosephStBede 🪨🦴
As part of #BritishScienceWeek, Class 2 explored shadows. They experimented with the shadow size by adjusting distance between the Gruffalo, mouse, and light source. They also explored their own shadows & Gruffalo teddies outside.#SJSBScience @StJosephStBede
Nursery are using their problem solving skills to try and make sandcastles from very wet sand @mrspEYFS @StJosephStBede #sjsbScience #CharacteristicsofEffectiveLearning #EYFS #STEM
In science we’ve been investigating whether having a longer femur helps us jump further. We found that it wasn’t always the longest femurs that jumped the furthest and concluded other factors matter, such as muscle strength and jump technique @StJosephStBede #sjsbscience 💪🏼🦴
We kicked off #BritishScienceWeek by exploring our new topic - Living Things and their Habitats. Today we looked closely at identifying creatures based on their skeletons and diet and classified them into different groups. #sjsbscience #classification
Nursery are busy making boats that float. 🚤 We are using a range of materials to create our boats. We then test our boats in the water to check they float and then improve them. @mrspEYFS @StJosephStBede #sjsbScience #STEM #sjsbDT
Class 2 have had so much fun learning about our senses at @eurekamuseum today. We watched a show, explored the sensory garden, talked to a robot and travelled on a big coach with our friends! @StJosephStBede #SJSBEYFS #SJSBScience 🤩
Nursery have been busy exploring how pumpkins roll. We investigated which #pumpkin would roll the farthest. We made predictions and then tested our ideas. @mrspEYFS @StJosephStBede #sjsbScience #STEM #EYFS
Nursery have had a lovely start to the week, we have planted our very own sunflowers 🌻 we gave them water and put them in a sunny spot, let’s hope they grow 😎 @mrspEYFS @StJosephStBede #sjsbEYFS #UtW #sjsbScience
This afternoon, we modelled the digestive system process as a class. We discussed the function of each organ, why they are important in the digestive system and got very messy! #sjsbscience
This week for #BritishScienceWeek, Class 8 have been on a habitat hunt to search for organisms in our local area. We discussed why the organisms are dependent on their habitat and we created classification keys to classify different animals. 🐜🪱🐦 #sjsbscience
Class 5 went exploring around our school grounds to identify common, wild plants that caterpillars and butterflies may like to eat🐛🦋. We counted how many we could find around us and put them into a tally chart. @StJosephStBede #sjsbscience #sjsbmaths
Reception @StJosephStBede have been reading #TheGruffalosChild this week. As part of @ScienceWeekUK we have been looking at habitats. We chose a character from the book and we made them a safe place to live using lots of different materials. #Habitats #SJSBScience #SJSBEYFS #STEM

After reading #TheWonderTree we set up an experiment using celery and coloured water. We all made our own predictions as to what we thought might happen. We will see if our predictions are correct later in the week. @StJosephStBede #SJSBScience #SJSBEYFS #UTW
For #BritishScienceWeek2023 last week, #SJSBClass4 investigated which material would have the best properties to make a boat.🚤 We needed our boats to cross the moat to our King’s Castle 🏰 We tested our boats and recorded our findings! #SJSBScience @StJosephStBede @ScienceWeekUK

What an exciting way to start the week! Class 4 held a snail race between Slow Celine and Big Bob 🐌 We then read a snail non-chronological report before spotting the features. We learnt lots of new snail facts! 🐌 🐌 🐌 #SJSBclass4 #SJSBScience #SJSBEnglish @StJosephStBede
Nursery have had a fantastic start to British Science Week. We have been baking gingerbread men. We noticed how the mixture changed and went hard when it was baked in the oven and explored how the ginger and cinnamon smelt. @mrspEYFS @StJosephStBede #BSW24 #sjsbScience #EYFS
This afternoon #sjsbclass7 worked scientifically to investigate the permeability & durability or different types of rock. The children concluded that our igneous & metamorphic rocks were the most durable & least permeable #superscientists #sjsbscience @StJosephStBede
