I've just uploaded my repack of Mortyr, forgotten polish FPS from 1999, on the internet archive. It's the full game with fixes to run on modern systems and optional widescreen patches. Download link on the post bellow

I think it was a circumstance where there wasn't really a viable, all-encompassing solution. Using basegame scaling would open the issue of needing to decide what target level to balance for, and knowing huge swathes of the playerbase would be cut out from that target.


I did not have writing an authoritative game server from scratch on my bingo card for 2023, but here we are. We've been working on the client for @HYTOPIAgg, and with that getting ever closer to beta release, the looming need to complete the product ecosystem with the server…

The only one that does not need to be scaleable is Seeding—but it should be reproducible so you can test your app multiple times until you get it right. (Gas had 4 false starts before we got it right)

Game Design Tip 2 - New game assets, especially effects, should be bigger and bolder than you think you need. It’s easier to scale down a big simple asset than scale up a small intricate asset.


So unlike writing or painting, the meta of game design is painstakingly building a process where you can iterate as quickly as possible, while making as few changes as possible, while still enabling big change to be feasible late in the process.
