So on my walk today I did walk on the road. Not a big enough gap for me with other pedestrians using the pavement. Feel safer on the road. #ComplexTrauma #SensoryDifferences I'm not sure that is enough for wheel chair users either.

It gets better: Extreme sensitivity to noise, touch, movement, commotion etc... beyondmeds.com/2014/08/18/it-… via @MonicaSensor
Sensory Processing Disorder! It’s most commonly seen/recognized with Autism albeit not exclusive to autism. Essentially my brain doesn’t process sensory inputs properly so instead I get to be hypersensitive to literally every sensory input😀😭
Research shows that many autistic people show heightened sensory perceptions: visual hypersensitivity, extraordinary vision, pattern recognition, and more! is.gd/au2Mzk
Another issue with autistic sensory processing can be the sensory echo. You don't have to be autistic to experience this because we all process sensory information, but this is more common in autistic people. A sensory experience can be continually felt after it has ceased.
One way that autistic sensory processing can be different is that for any given sense (e.g. hearing, taste, balance), that sense can come in "too big" (too intense), "too small" (hard to detect), or at a different speed (e.g., after a time delay), it can be distorted or jumbled.
Autistic people are characterized by sensory processing differences, meaning there is a difference from the normative neurotypical conceptualization, but there are infinite ways to be different, and autistic people's sensory processing can be different from person to person.
If you only know one thing about autistic people, know this: Autistic sensory processing VARIES from person to person, and it is dynamic - so even in the same person it can change over the lifetime, over weeks and months, or throughout the day. 🧵
"I possibly know more than you" yet you are claiming that autistic auditory processing differences are the same as hearing problems secondary to ear infection. For starters, Autistic auditory processing is already heterogeneous, to conflate it with ear infection sequelae is 🤡
This is ableism against people with sensory issues who still in fact detect it as does everyone else
Severe sensory problems can be noticed by caregivers early such as autistic toddlers covering their ears and screaming or crying during bath time. This is primarily based on behavioral observation.
Okay, so, I'm autistic. Some things relating to the 5 senses just REALLY bother me. Like the sound of these water bottle containers or the feeling of earbuds (which is why I only use headphones)
Did you get your education from LSU or LSD? Either way they didn’t teach you to Google. You’re ignorant and arrogant. Seek to understand first. What I said is consistent with the definition of neurological regression. and yes, sweety, sensory means the 5 senses. Very good.
La evaluación sensorial no ayuda únicamente a niños con TEA sino también a niños com TDAH (y a cualquier niño, de hecho). Es increíble todo lo que se puede descubrir al respecto: …tegrationeducation-com.translate.goog/pages/news-sel…
This new systematic review evaluated and summarised current evidence on the effectiveness of sensory based interventions on functional outcomes and participation for children and young people (0-21 years) with sensory processing differences. doi.org/10.3389/fped.2…
Sensory processing disorder is literally a diagnosis that means some people actually do have to block some shit out so they can function. That's what disabilities are.
Sensory sensitivity is normal, just heightened in neurodivergence & causes stress, if not mitigated. If kids struggle, we need to be curious & ask why, and how we can help. Not keep blasting them in the ear with the horn and expecting their nervous system to "get over itself".
Wow I wish that someone would kindly take these ignorant people to one side and educate them about sensory science. Everyone has sensory sensitivities, it's just that we are all tuned differently. And some folk get overwhelmed with noise and struggle to concentrate due to that.
people with sensory issues are also likely to not have the self-awareness and empathy necessary to understand that their experience isn't universal
Sensory sensitivities are HUGE. 👂✋👃 Whether it's overwhelming noise, uncomfortable textures, or specific smells, sensory input can be a daily challenge or source of joy. It's a core part of the autistic experience. #SensoryProcessing
