The #ShortCorn at Roanoke is now about 18” shorter than the neighboring commercial hybrid. As you can imagine, it is far more accessible for mid and late-season management.

Looks like typical corn seed, right? Well, this could be #TheNextBigThing, just a little shorter. One huge advantage that we’ve seen in #ShortCorn testing so far is that it appears far less likely to lodge than taller hybrids.

Our research shows that #ShortCorn yields comparably to standard height hybrids in 30” row spacings. Another question we are working to understand is how it compares in narrower rows. In this field we have planted it at 20” spacing.

#ShortCorn, aka "Smart Corn System", has many benefits! - reduced root lodging and greensnap - in-season fungicide and fertilizer application flexibility with a standard ground rig (no airplanes) - higher plant pops for higher yields! (55K ppa behind me) - greater root mass!
Short corn hybrids have been showing their height differences the past couple weeks! Look at the compaction of nodes! This farmer was able to sidedress nitrogen on the short corn a whole week later, compared to the standard height corn! @BayerTraits #ShortCorn #SmartCornSystem
Nothing to see here…. At this point it’s pretty much impossible to tell the #ShortCorn from the standard corn. Over the course of the growing season, the height differences will start to become apparent.
