#SICSS #SG LAST DAY Dr. Douglas ignited the fire on rethinking macro- and micro- patterns in the age of LLMs, "Micro Divergence, Macro Convergence: Lessons from LLM Replications." Unexpectedly, a study by Gengrui, one of our participants, was mentioned in this talk.

#SICSS #SG DAY5 #2 Dr. Celine turned the clock to the present and future. She shared the ongoing and forthcoming changes in social sciences during the current era of GenAI, in a lecture entitled "Generative Social Science: What Happens When Al Thinks With Us?"

#SICSS #SG DAY5 #1 Dr. Jonathan talked about "The Feasibility and Challenges in Integrating Predictive and Explanatory Research in CSS." This talk also illustrated the historical paces of CSS - where we came from.

#SICSS #SG DAY4 #2 Dr. Kokil gave another talk on "Running Field and Survey Experiments," with which comp-methods and GenAI could further help researchers. There's a moment when nearly half of our participants were taking the same photo of her screen.

#SICSS #SG DAY4 #1 Two sessions today are talking about other contexts for AI and computational methods. Dr. Joshua shared three empirical studies on AI in social contexts, entitled "Multilevel Networks of Social Cyber Harm."

#SICSS #SG DAY3 Dr. Hannah and Dr. Swapnil shared remarkable approaches to "Infectious Disease Modeling" (Hannah), as well as the real application and implementation of such powerful models (Swapnil).

#SICSS #SG DAY2 #2 A*STAR did a remarkable workshop, instructing participants on how to leverage LLMs in their research, albeit with caution. The pipeline (Mr. Brandon) can be used for enhancing research (Dr. Joe) yet we may need to "curb our enthusiasm" (Dr. Prasanta).

#SICSS #SG DAY2 #1 Dr. Prateek illustrated how data fusion could magically happen: "Analytical Data Fusion Approaches to Update Mobility Patterns in Real-time." "I've never even imagined how this could happen," said Boying, one of our participants.

#SICSS #SG DAY1 #2 Dr. Yi-Chieh Lee gave a talk on "Computational Psychometric Modeling Workshop," in which our participants were guided to use AI models to assist qualitative data analysis.

#SICSS #SG DAY1 #1 Dr. Renwen shared her thoughts on the intersection of GenAI and computational social research, especially the interaction between humans and AI. The talk was entitled "Computational Social Science in the Age of AI."

Day 1 of SICSS-Penn ‘23: Prof. @merbroussard gave a fantastic talk at #SICSS about how mathematical fairness may differ from social fairness, reflecting on the tech-driven inequality in the era of AI.

I had a great time at the #SICSS @ODISSEI_nl summer school! I learned a lot about machine learning, Python and working with @statisticscbs and @LISS_panel data. Very excited to work more with machine learning in the future. Thanks to the organizers and participants!
