I work on several apps, and each one has a different age. One codebase is six years old, another is three, another two, and the rest are much younger. Opening them feels like opening old journals. You see who you were as a developer at that time.

I believe this new model in Claude Code is a glimpse of the future we're hurtling towards, maybe as soon as the first half of next year: software engineering is done. Soon, we won't bother to check generated code, for the same reasons we don't check compiler output.

Every time I refactor an old module, I’m reminded how software ages like sediment layers—logic from different eras stacked on top of each other, now stirred by AI tools that try to make sense of decisions no human fully remembers.

Software can't age, it's not a physical object like metal that can get rust over time, the only acceptable way to say a software ages is that it has incompatibility with a mordern system, and that's outside of the game's inert quality. So no, games don't age

Which extends the revenue stream and usable life for that old gear, far beyond the depreciation schedule. “Legacy software” exists. And MSFT & Intuit force companies to upgrade and migrate , when they’re mostly happy to stay in old programs. This is a similar situation.
