Pediatrics Group Raises Concerns About Schools Suspending Students In Special Ed
In a new policy statement, the American Academy of Pediatrics is speaking out about the harms of school suspensions and expulsions and their disproportionate impact on students with disabilities.
Suspending and expelling students as a form of punishment is simply proven not to work. Year after year, we've been a part of the Solutions Not Suspensions Coalition, and year after year we've asked the state legislature to pass the #SolutionsNotSuspensions bill.

Black youth in Louisiana are pushed out of school at disturbing rates, far more than their white peers. If kids are criminalized for acting like kids, they become increasingly vulnerable to making contact with the youth justice system. #solutionsnotsuspensions
It’s time for NY to join in: we’re calling on state reps to support and pass #SolutionsNotSuspensions to address the overuse of suspensions, which disproportionately harm Black, Brown, and gender-expansive youth while contributing to the school-prison pipeline.
