Hi @CllrChasBooth @adamrmcvey @GJMunro26 The roads around Leith are starting to get busy again – please can we create #spacefordistancing to keep people safe while they walk, wheel & cycle. @POPScotland
Space for cycling, skateboarders, kids chasing each other down the middle of the road and friendly strolling cops.❤ Well done to the folk that gave us #spacefordistancing #spaceforcycling @isersmalone @GoBikeGlasgow @POPScotland
Cracking cycle on Pointhouse Road tonight, there could definitely be a cycle lane here without encroaching on anyone's space! #SpaceForDistancing @POPScotland @GlasgowCC @Allan4Govan
Another temporary pop-up bi-directional cycleway on Dumbreck Rd on the bridge over M77! #SpaceForDistancing
Future Byres Road redevelopment plans will build in more space for people, pandemic conditions require #SpaceForDistancing now. Temporary measures already in place in other cities for people to walk, cycle & wheel in safety, hoping to see similar adaptations here @GlasgowCC
Crow Rd cuts through many highly populated areas of Glasgow but the pavements are narrow & the road either high-speed dual carriageway or as wide the Clyde, allowing motorists to drive at excessive speed. #spacefordistancing for the 51% without cars please @GlasgowCC
A ☀️ day on the coast. Picnic, paddle & 🍦(with a fantastic view of beautiful IOW) #FamilyTime #SpaceForDistancing
Lots of children cycling & scooting in Jordanhill right now (there are 2 secondary schools & a primary in this area). Parallel streets with 2-way traffic & pavements obstructed with vehicles means that #SpaceForDistancing is in short supply. Solutions are obvious @GlasgowCC.
As Victoria Park roundabout is currently being excavated for gasworks - now would be a good time to improve the layout for safety for cyclists & pedestrians - in time for children returning to school @GlasgowCC #SpacesForPeople #SpaceForDistancing
Heartened to see lots of Hillhead pupils cycling at the end of the school day. Sunken-hearted that there was no #spacefordistancing due to parents parked on the pavement (engines idling) & @UofGlasgow’s failure to provide safe infrastructure as part of its £billion redevelopment
Such a delight #cycling on a @carfreeholyrood Park this Afternoon. @Edinburgh_CC please keep it that way ! #CyclingInEdinburgh #SpaceForDistancing
We have the opportunity to pave the way for a brighter, healthier future 🌳 We can't go back to the way things were. Let's focus our infrastructure on moving people, not cars 🚶♀️🏃♂️🚴♀️ #spacefordistancing 📸 @davewalker
Difficult to achieve #SpaceForDistancing on Marlborough Street, Portobello - a major thoroughfare to the Prom. How about some cones down one side to prevent pavement parking? @POPScotland @MaureenChild1 @MaryGreens @KateC_SNP @CLaidlaw @SpokesPorty @SpokesLothian @edinhelp
W Harbour Road - another day, another #closepass. Need #SpaceForDistancing infrastructure connecting the Silverknowles Esplanade with the Lower Granton Road segregated #CyclePath. #CyclingInEdinburgh @Edinburgh_CC
I’ve made this quickly just show what we currently have in Glasgow for temporary pop-up infrastructure for #SpaceForDistancing 🚶♀️👨🦽🚴 📍 Kelvin Way - Road Closure 📍 Clyde Walkway - Westbound Only Cycleway on the road 📍 Dumbreck Rd - Bi-Directional Cycleway on the road
Here we go! A ride down Cardiff’s first pop up temporary infrastructure to allow #spacefordistancing not perfect but it’s there, it gives a clear signal that #activetravel is a priority & it gives us something to learn from & improve. Let us know what else you’d like to see.
We have the opportunity to pave the way for a healthier future. 🌿 But time to act is running out. ⏱️ Governments must make #SpaceForDistancing now before things go back to normal. 🚴↔️ 🚶♂️ 📸 @DaveWalkerWHU via @Sir_Labz #KenyanTraffic
Paris, France 🇫🇷 Converted motorcycle parking to outdoor dining seats #spaceforhealth #spacefordistancing #tacticalurbanism #urbanismetactique #popup
Parking for a half dozen motorcycles (the dark metal stands beneath the tables) transformed into seating for 2 dozen customers on a restaurant terrace.
Do our city need to make more #SpaceForDistancing at the Quayside?

Warning Covid rulebreakers could derail lockdown exit as crowds flocked to North East beauty spots...
There are fears of a spike in coronavirus cases after the region's beaches, parks, and other beauty spots were busy over the weekend as people enjoyed the sunny weather
Lockdowns in 2020 meant we had to cancel our plans for more popups - but we went virtual instead with our #SpaceForDistancing campaign. pedalonparliament.org/pop-2020/
This is good news: not only is the new #SpaceForDistancing infrastructure in Paris creating more cyclists, but the rise has been faster among women, who now make up 41% of those on bikes in Paris road.cc/content/news/6…
We could have told you that might not work - Greggs in #Gosforth had double yellows for years & that failed to stop cars parking & it was difficult to enforce. Finally stopped by #SpaceForDistancing bollards from your @arleneainsley & that side of GosHighSt is much nicer.
This debate continues: "Do they really need to travel any distance to do their exercise or get fresh air?" - there are 2 aspects:(1) we need clear guidance from government & (2) we need #SpaceForDistancing in our city.
Car parks have stayed open in this lockdown chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-eas…
Moorfield / Little Moor and Jesmond Dene Parks busy too. Definitely a demand for #SpaceForDistancing at present! @JesmondDeneOrg
1/ Again, local evidence suggests the double yellow lines are ineffective - Gosforth High Street before the #SpaceForDistancing changes is just one example. As are zigzag lines near schools & crossings. Bollards, however, tend to be very effective at stopping unwanted parking.
2/ as well as making #SpaceForDistancing, the Stoneyhurst measures also aim to improve road safety for very young children travelling to school. Decisions about their safety MUST be based on the best evidence of what actually works.
3/ then there’s the issue of @NTCouncilTeam wasting public money by pulling out #SpaceForDistancing routes despite ongoing pandemic. (We wouldn’t see this as a problem if they’d kept @SunriseCycleway etc, but as it stands money would have been better spent on Dean & Blackett Sts)
1/ But it also has to be said that parts of the city are not as nice for walking & cycling as in #Newcastle’s commuter towns. If residents are expected to stay where they live then we urgently need #SpaceForDistancing changes to help people exercise
2/ the flip side though is that cities don’t have recreation routes for walking & cycling, so if people can’t drive out of town we need more #SpaceForDistancing measures to make urban areas nicer for walking & cycling.
It's possible - most of the parks are close to another one, and with #SpaceForDistancing the linking streets could be made into a safe link. @arleneainsley @urbangreenncl @GarethKaneLD
Love the sound of the parks being linked. We quite like a long walk (10 miles or so). This would be a great opportunity. Don't mind an odd bike ride in the mix. I do realise how lucky we are to have so much green space - just feeling the blues today 🙂
This is really interesting as if you want everyone to walk from their own homes, then we do need #SpaceForDistancing schemes to make it possible & nicer for people to do this.
"Our village has been invaded' chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-eas…
It's clear that Edinburgh Council haven't gone anywhere near far nor fast enough in making #SpaceForDistancing. Most main roads unchanged, and new soft segragation is all start-stop. Will this lockdown prompt genuinely ambitious measures?
2/ The use of traffic cams for data is something that can be done in #Newcastle - we’ve done it, when we used them to look at how people were using #GosforthHighStreet before #SpaceForDistancing measures were introduced. #Gosforth spaceforgosforth.com/physical-dista…

Physical Distancing - SPACE for Gosforth
In our last blog we shared how city transport planners are responding to COVID-19. In this blog we look at how people in Gosforth are using streets differently because of the pandemic and what...
Baltimore, MD, USA 🇺🇸 #spaceforhealth #spacefordistancing #tacticalurbanism #urbanismetactique
At a time when it was necessary to help small businesses, Gensler Baltimore and its local partners came together. Built on 20 volunteers' commitment and more than 630 hours of work, the #DesignforDistancing interventions provide tangible economic viability during a crisis.
5/ #GreyStreet was also really brave, but while other councils have removed their #SpaceForDistancing changes, we still have our fantastic new lane & we can admire the most beautiful street in Britain in the way our ancestors designed it to be used - by walking & riding.
There is #SpacesForPeople on Saint John's Road EH12, including cycle lanes, and then there is City Fibre works. All somewhat rubbish really? #SpaceForDistancing (2 pics)

Congratulations to @nick_forbes & @arleneainsley for @NewcastleCC's first #SpaceForDistancing route. It's a safe route for #keyworkers to @NewcastleHosps #RVI, for children to travel between @urbangreenncl Leazes & @Exhibition_Park and in future for students to @UniofNewcastle.
The A77 is really popular for people exercising on bikes but some have to use the road to allow for safe distancing. Could we look at reducing vehicle speeds here to help with #SpaceForDistancing please? @eastrencouncil @des_cartez @popscotland
Caledonia Rd, Gorbals. 4 lanes for road traffic... Can’t we reallocate as #SpaceForDistancing? It currently encourages increasing use as a racetrack for speeding cars. And does this camera even work? @policescotland (entrance to southern necropolis) @Soryia @Belic @alisonthewliss
